Disabling his mike, Peng hurriedly mutters, "He's actin' like we're just over in the terminal. Someone holdin' him at gunpoint, maybe?"The two Aslan share a look, ears flat against their skulls. "We should hurry," Takheal says.

Peng's eyebrows climb higher and higher as Vargus' spiel keeps going. Fiddling with his comm, Peng sets it so that Vargus' voice comes out of the unit's wrist speaker but input remains Peng's throat mike. The rest of the party hears a tinny, slightly-falsetto version of the doctor's voice say: " . . . have your keys and access codes, right? I've got all the hatches locked down...tight...and the automated defenses are on, so make sure you ping me, Peng ol' buddy, before you get too close, okay?"Peng glances around at the others with a rather helpless expresssion, then answers their crewmate via his throat mike (very obviously pressing the small disk on his throat as he does so), "Uh, righto, 'Gus! Care to remind me what you wanted? 'Fraid I lost your note."
Disabling his mike, Peng hurriedly mutters, "He's actin' like we're just over in the terminal. Someone holdin' him at gunpoint, maybe?"
“I bet we know who. We need to tell him we’ll be overnight and slip back in overnight to the ship.” “Or since he’s talking dinner, that we’ll be later than we plan to be, at least.”

So you'll probably be better off nukin' somethin' in the galley."
As he speaks, Peng is following the others out of the diner . . . [Internal Thought] Hope somebody has already called a cab or whatever sort of for-hire vehicle they have hereabouts.[/Internal Thought]

Cyril's comm suddenly buzzes, he answers it with the speaker on so everyone can hear.
"You <blank, blank, blank> we'll do a straight swap!" growls a man's voice, "Our property for your Captain and the Delgado woman! We won't wait long you <blank, blank, blank's> and if you don't answer yes, we'll kill the Delgado woman first and then your <blank> Captain!"
"Five minutes! That's all you got to get that Vargr out onto the tarmac!"

As he speaks, Peng is following the others out of the diner . . . "Ah hell! They KNOW you're in here." Dr Vargas says, "You've got to let me tell our guys what's going on out there!" There are sounds off mike then Vargas comes back on line, "Look this is an open mike and those pirates in the other ship are listening in. They just got out of an ATV about half way to our ship and are holding guns to the heads of Raven and Madam Cho!" "They want the Vargr we found back. He's holding a gun on me here on the bridge so that is not happening, not that I'd turn anyone over to that bunch of Slavers! Oh, he has the ship locked down all the Delgado folks are trapped in their quarters, so they can't help. I don't know where Blackjack is and I can't ask Raven what to do!" "They just said they'd shoot Madam Cho in five minutes if we don't turn over the Vargr..." says Vargas, somewhere else on the bridge you hear loud rejection to being turned over to those <blanks>.

As Peng is talking, Charlie is stepping back to call a ride. Gil is with Charlie ,but before Charlie can make that call, Gil grabs his arm and points at a grav vehicle coming right down from above the street and landing with a "Whomp!" The woman that talked to Gil outside the Church earlier looks out an open window and calls out, "Trouble at your ship! I can get you there in 10 minutes if you want a lift?"

“Any port in a storm. Everyone get in. We don’t have time to waste.” Takheal and Tokheletoi climb in and settle down next to each other. Their ears are still flat, and Takheal opens his mouth slightly and starts to vocalize something like a low, rumbling purr. Tokheletoi follows suit, only her purr is softer and higher in pitch. Their vocalizations intermingle in a complex pattern of tones, combining into a pulsing beat as they wait for the craft to land.

This looks like a chance to nail them for running slaves, among other things, so that's my interest. There's 3 handguns and a shotgun under the seats that you can borrow, but that's as far as I can go because I'm sort of out of my jurisdiction right now." The grav craft is racing north toward the island where the Starport is located. Peng's phone still has The Clear Sails on the line. "Oh, CRAP!" shouts Dr. Vargas over the line, "Blackjack is trying to rush them! He must have been hiding behind one of our wheels!"

Charlie will pass the weapons out, holding a pistol for himself. He’s not the best shot, but this isn’t the time to be picky. “We appreciate your help. Thank you.” He listens with growing horror as things unwind completely out of their control.

Peng jumps in with the rest, wishing he had been able to bring along his submachinegun . . .
[Internal Thought]Guess I'll just have to make do with Ol' Bessy here[/Thought], as he pats his heavy pistol in it's shoulder holster and makes sure the extra gas cartridges in his pockets are still there.
When the Rissy gal makes her little speech, Peng comments sourly but softly, "Ten minutes seems liable to be 'bout five minutes too late."
Then after thinking a moment, Peng asks in a much louder voice: "Hey. If we take the pirate ship, can we keep it? Legal like, I mean? This world got a criminal asset seizure law or somethin' like it?"
******************************
[OOC: Peng's earlier plan to hit CLOSE to a ground target - thus using shock and overpressure to substitute for a flashbang grenade - still appears to be viable, assuming he can get into his turret before things go critical. Such a near-miss would knock everyone silly without causing permanent damage, unless someone was unlucky enough to catch a chunk of tarmac in just the wrong spot. So Madam Cho Et Al would *probably* be fine . . . while the slavers could "accidentally" end up dead.]

If Cyril still has the slaver on comm: "You need to know that your property is on the bridge with a gun and doesn't give a farthing about your hostages. We care, but we need an idea. Talk to me." "Idea!" snaps the pirate on the other end of the line, "The idea is toss our property out the airlock! You've only...wha!"The pirate is cut off. Looking out the bridge window Vargas and the Vargr see Madam Cho and Raven have both moved. Raven has the pirate that was holding her in an arm bar and Madam Cho has toss the pirate that had the gun on her on to his back. Blackjack is closing in from the side rapidly! Suddenly, that is a loud "BING! from the controls on the bridge and Dr Vargas sees a flash followed by a "WUMP!" that is heard even through the thick hull as the area around the Pirate, their ATV, and your people disappears inside a sparkling cloud! "That should shake things up!" growls the Vargr from behind Vargas. The Vargr has fired off a Sand Canister right at the ATV, and he's cycling another one into the catapult as he speaks, "Next one is for their ship!" OOC: Okay, I've made the last post I was planning to make as the NPC Vargr. Ateno, I hope you're ready to take over! Everyone meet... Ekhunoz Girskhaen has a toothy grin on his face, if Vargas takes a moment to look.

OOC: For tophocles and anyone else wanting to join the game...
At the Starport Terminal building a small crowd has gathered to observe what is going on out on the tarmac. Two starships are out there about 300 meters apart and half way between them a group is standing next to an ATV. The group consists of 8 men and 2 women. The 2 women are being held by two of the men. One of the men holding a woman appears to be shouting into his comm.
The group standing here observe the local Starport Security standing off to one side...just stand there, not getting involved at all.
From the ship on the left hand side a man comes out of hiding behind a wheel well and starts sprinting toward the group in the center. The two women seeing this begin to struggle and succeed in putting those holding them on the ground, but others move in on them and guns are being aimed at them.
Suddenly, there is a loud Whump BANG! and the area around the ATV and the brawling group seems to explode in a silver cloud! As the cloud begins to dissipate, you see the ATV has been flipped onto its side and all the people around it are down. The people out there begin to rise from the ground, some are bleeding and all of them are disoriented.
You think to yourself, you really should do something...
Six of the men who were holding the women climb back to their feet, two are still down. The man rushing the scene picks up one of the women, throws her over his shoulder and turns to run back toward his ship. The other women grabs a pistol from the ground and begins to stumble along behind the man with the women over his shoulder.
Gunfire breaks out! The six men are behind the ATV now and are firing at the retreating trio. The woman with the pistol fires back over her shoulder as she limps.
...you really should do something!

"We're almost there!" says the woman driving the grav craft, "I'll set down as closely as I safely can."
The grav craft roars in from the sea and swoops down toward the tarmac of the Starport. You can see a gun fight has broken out on the tarmac about halfway between The Clear Sails and that other ship in port. There is dissipating silver cloud surrounding an ATV turned on its side with several men using it for cover firing on a trio of people running toward your ship!
The trio consists of Blackjack with Madam Cho draped over his shoulder and Raven firing back toward the ATV as she limps along. Just before the grav craft goes behind Clear Sails cutting off your view you see Raven stumble and go down!
"THUMP!" the grav craft grounds hard, and you all burst out of it behind your ship. The scene on the other side is mostly invisible, hidden by wheel wells. You only need a moment to get oriented and move forward under the belly of the ship toward the action on the other side.
Raven is sprawled on the ground, but Blackjack with Madam Cho is still running toward you. You see bullets hitting the tarmac around them and hear them pinging off Clear Sail's hull. It's only a matter of time before Blackjack is hit...

Casca Vhar is in the starport plaza, lean and hungry, apparently one of the many bystanders inconvenienced by the arrival of the ATV, doing his best to avoid any undue attention. They're not here for him, which is a relief. There's a sudden explosion, and Vhar is one of the few not immediately knocked off their feet by the concussion and the debris. Hearing is another matter, and there is no making sense of the sudden moment of silence giving way to tinnitus. Ruptured eardrums? Hope not, he thinks.
As the dust clears, right there, there's a man dragging a woman over his shoulder, and her companion chasing after them. There's a desperate expression on the face of the pursuer, and Vhar doesn't hesitate to intercept. There's a grace to his movement as he begins to run.
"Are you alright?" Vhar calls after the pursuer, even if he can hear no response. "I'm here to help." The large man is heading for the ship, and that woman chasing him isn't getting any closer. Not wanting the abductor to get away, Vhar leaps at him, tackling him across the legs, below his center of gravity. Hopefully, with the additional burden of the woman Vhar is now sure is a kidnapping victim, they'll both be on the dockingbay floor before he can reach the ship.

Cyril kneeling behind a landing gear leg, lays down suppressive fire on the slavers behind the ATV. Engaging exposed shooters from his right to left, he has no idea whatsoever what he's sending their way, since he didn't load the shotgun. He passes up any shot that would endanger the his crewmates.

OOC: Okay, first turn of combat, everyone posted except raikenclw (I'll put in something for him to have done, but he can retcon it if he wants to). A few things mostly for the new folks. 1. Try to remember to put dialog is blue and OOC in red. 2. Don't post what happens, just what you are trying to do, I'll roll and let you know what actually happens. 3. When you're posting your intentions, feel free to include if/then/else statements...like, "I'll fire at pirate 1 if he's still standing, else I'll fire at pirate 2." Okay, here's what you attempted and what happened...
"With me," Takheal rumbles in Aslan as he draws his pistol. Tokheletoi snarls in response as she takes her own weapon in hand. The pair run toward the ship's nose in a bid to outflank the attackers and catch them in a crossfire. The pair of Aslan make it to the nose and look around the wheel well, the pirates behind the ATV aren't visible to them...so they aren't visible either. They could run forward around the left side of the ATV...
Peng, knowing he can enter the ship through the hatch under his gun's turret, runs forward with the Aslan as far as the Maintenance hatch near the nose of the ship. He has the access codes for this hatch and no one is going to lock him out...besides, he has been dying to use the ship's laser on that pirate ship and now he might have an opportunity.
"Are you alright?" Vhar calls after the pursuer, even if he can hear no response. "I'm here to help." The woman is firing back toward the people at the overturned ATV, before she can answer him she is hit in the chest by a bullet and twirls to the tarmac sprawled on her back.
The large man is heading for the ship, and that woman chasing him isn't getting any closer. Not wanting the abductor to get away, Vhar leaps at him, tackling him across the legs, below his center of gravity. Hopefully, with the additional burden of the woman Vhar is now sure is a kidnapping victim, they'll both be on the dockingbay floor before he can reach the ship. The large man stumbles and goes down with the woman he was carrying.
Bullets whizz over Vhar's head, ricocheting off the skin of the starship in front of him. Those shots are coming from behind him, back where the overturned ATV is located. Looking up he sees a man running toward the pile he is in with the large man and the woman...no toward the woman who went down with the gunshot wound.
Charlie doesn't hesitate, racing straight out at Raven. He starts to fire at the people behind the ATV but sees someone charging Blackjack and Madam Cho. He turns his pistol toward the new attacker and fires, trying to drive him back. The the person who charged Blackjack and Madam Cho dives into Blackjack's legs and tackles them to the ground while Charlie's bullet whizzes over his head. Charlie, then grabs Raven and retreats toward the cover of The Clear Sails. Charlie didn't take time to examine Raven, but he did see blood on her chest and she is, at least, unconscious as she is a limp dead weight over his shoulder.
From the ground Vhar sees that the large man is shouting at him. He is having trouble hearing, but he thinks he is shouting something like, "Don't hurt her!"
Cyril kneeling behind a landing gear leg, lays down suppressive fire on the slavers behind the ATV. Engaging exposed shooters from his right to left, he has no idea whatsoever what he's sending their way, since he didn't load the shotgun. He does see one of the Slavers he fired at go down, so whatever the load in the shotgun was it had an effect. He sees the man tackle Blackjack, but firing at him risks hitting Blackjack, Cho or Charlie so he just ignores that scene.
Ekhunoz looks down at the chaos, "Only 2 <blank> down, these are sub-standard chaff."
He continues to reload as he has seen gunners do before during combat. This isn't something he is trained for, but it shouldn't been too hard, he thinks.
Looking at the doctor, "Zduekhnea Sueltavagar, yes you, ah, help ...push, Urz, Urz Urz! Doctor Vargas is ignoring him and tapping on a computer module.
Then he turns to Ekhunoz and says, "I've unlocked the hatches so the crew can help fight off those Slavers. WE are on your side here!"
The hatch on the cargo hole starts opening and several of the Delgado passengers begin to fire on the Slavers around the ATV!
Everyone who can see the Slavers sees that they abandon their attack and turn and scurry back toward their ship. Two are helping a third and are lagging a little behind two who are flat out sprinting back to safety. The have left three of their own lying on the tarmac.
Just as Tak and Tol are deciding what to do next they see the Slavers running away from the field back toward their ship. They can take shots, but from where they are it would be long range at moving targets.
Okay, as confusing as all that is...that's the scene, what do you try to do now?

Ekhunoz's eyelids lower and upper lip forms a inverted U and lower lips protrudes a bit.
He shakes his head side to side.
"Pthaw, bink, bink, fine."
Ekhunoz continues to load the chaff, raise the angle of engagement and hopefully fire before they get on the ship.

Utterly confused, Aarav looks around for an air/raft, paying special attention to one which might have been recently used by those starport security personnel who don't seem to be doing their job. He moves quickly toward the nearest unoccupied air/raft, preferring one near the security personnel if there is a choice.

The security is watching the action on the field, not the air/raft behind them, so Aarav makes it there without anyone taking notice. He hops in and then... OOC: Now, Aarav is caught up and ready to make his turn 2.Hoping there isn't a securty lock-out, or at least not one he can't figure out how to quickly get past, Aarav attempts to activate the air/raft, if successful, quickly taking it to height just two or three metres above the ground, and begins to accelerate toward the men around the ATV. . . .
OOC: If he can't activate the air/raft, he'll jump out and start looking for another one (perhaps screaming at the security personnel to "Do something!").
