How to Play This Game
I have set up 3 threads in this forum for game play. This is one, please ask questions here if you think the answers might help others. You can PM me with questions if you don't want the other players to know what you are asking. There is an OOC Announcements thread where game-mechanical things like turn deadlines, vacation notifications and so on will go. The game itself will occur in the Game Events thread. Post public communications and moves there.
The Rules
I don't want the players of this game to know all of the rules. I want a free-form game, where anything can be attempted. I am using rules I have been working on which are somewhat like Chainmail, but simpler. Instead of players using rules to describe the actions of their side, I want the players to simply describe the actions they want to take place. For example, "The Heavy Cavalry will charge the nearest unit of Armored Infantry".
I will give here a basic outline of the rules though. There is a Movement Phase and a Combat Phase. Archer Units and Light Horse armed with Bow can split Move/ Fire, moving half their normal distance and firing with 1/2 (rounded UP) of the number of figures. If bad things happen to a Unit, it may need to make a Morale Check. If it fails it will be Disordered, will not be able to fight, and will seek to Retreat. It can attempt to Rally at the beginning of the next Turn. Being near a Leader figure will make the Rally attempt more likely to succeed.
I will give more details on the rules as we go if it seems like it would help, but I would really like to see how things go with the players not really understanding how the game works in detail.
