Hello! I came across this forum googling around about OD&D, I've known about it for a while but for some reason just hadn't gotten to signing up till now. I've been very interested in OD&D from a play and historical perspective since about 2009. My first exposure to D&D was through the old Icewind Dale PC games, I got the first one in 6th grade. The manual for the game contained the very bare bones of AD&D 2nd and I expanded it (poorly) enough to play ad hoc sessions during school lunch with some friends. A few years later a friend introduced me to 3rd edition, and I played for a few years. Later on, I got interested in the history of the game and found OD&D and never looked back. I also do a bit of wargaming. Warhammer 40k (particularly the original Rogue Trader edition) and some homemade historical rules for various periods. From time to time, I post on the OD&D Proboards under the same handle. Looking forward to getting to know everyone! Welcome to our new member arkansan! Come on in and make yourself at home. Welcome to The Ruins arkansan, great to have you aboard!

I'm a member of some other OD&D boards as well but this is my "home base" so to speak. The Icewind Dale games were great. Cool! You have some homemade historical rules? Sounds cool.

Hey, I found out about this forum from a post on the OD&D subreddit. I started getting into RPGs in the mid-90s, first by playing the board game/rpg Dragon Strike, then AD&D 2nd edition and the WEG Star Wars RPG. Lately, I’ve been getting into OD&D and am fascinated by the differences between it and later editions.

It's about 50 percent on paper and 50 percent vague ideas kicking around the old brain lol.

Saw a post on Reddit in r/osr about the origins of OD&D. I've been playing since 1978, off and on, and prefer the old school OD&D form of play. Played 1e during college (1980-1986), tried a little 2e but mostly skipped it due to marriage, job, life, kids. Got back in as 3e started. Then tried 3e, 3.5, and Pathfinder due to group I was in wanting to play "latest & greatest". But when 4e came out, I said "Nope" and went back to 1e. At that time, North Texas RPG Con started and I was one of the original 50 at the con. Been going ever since. Now I run Swords & Wizardry Complete and house-rule the hell out of it. Will be running 3 games at NTRPG this June, all Borshak's Lair from an old Dungeoneer and using S&W rules. Y'all come and play!

I found my way from Tenkar's Tavern YouTube. I prefer 1e AD&D, though I am interested in all editions (except 4e), and will borrow ideas from all for my home game.

Well we focus on OD&D, but you can also talk about 1e AD&D or dozens of other games. Welcome to the forum. How long have you been running your home game?

Hi I am Cesare from Italy. I found this forum just googling around.
I like to play Old School games like Labyrinth Lord and Strange Magic (Italian version was really big supported).

Welcome to our newest member mazinkaesar! Come on in and make yourself at home! Welcome to The Ruins mazinkaesar! Great to have you here! By Strange Magic, I am assuming you mean Strange Magic Old School Roleplaying by Robertson Games I was not aware that it had been translated to other languages, that is great to hear.

Greetings! Found out about your forum because I was interested in finding the original 900+ page National Archive PDF of the Arneson v. TSR court case. I found the link to your forum at www.rpgpub.com/threads/the-arneson-vs-gygax-and-tsr-dossier.10432/I play mostly modern systems (like Pathfinder) and have only played a little old school D&D but want to play more. I am interested in the history of the game.
