Aerth (as it is presented here), follows the "Gygaxian Physics" of the first 7 AD&D books.
Now, this was a bit of a tough decision for me, as I really like 2e, and, the 2e resources are excellent for filling in the details.
I will post summaries of all of the 2e HR series in the days ahead, by the way. This is going to change the dynamics of things a bit, moving Aeropa a step towards the Dark Ages.
That said, no worries, there are Advanced civilizations out there... somewhere.
As well, part of 2e is that the core accepts 3e ideas (new races, classes, skills, equipment, spells). The only thing that doesn't really fit is the concept of feats.
So, you can tell that i like 2e a lot, especially within the context of Aerth.
Now, that said, for design purposes, i need to work with a consistent set of 'physics', and, i've chosen 1e physics to start. (That does not rule out me one day DMing 2e!).
1e is something that i know, something that i am comfortable with, and, if extended beyond the core of first 7 AD&D books, is able to provide a level of incredible detail, rarely seen in later editions of the game.
I'll write later on the details && implications of Gygaxian Physics, but, for now, I need to attend to some work, and catch up with my friends.
I seriously need to learn how to type and edit faster...!

Ps.
I really hope that all of this, overall, would please Gary. The test, of course, would be to run it by those who knew him, and, worked closely with him.
Before any purists decide to have me hung for blasphemy... I rest my case with page 222 of Epic of Aerth. This is perhaps the best page in the book. Imagination...
