Gwindeth, Togork and one of Sora's folk take first watch.
Grimbane, Grimdeath and one of Sora's folk take second watch.
Sora, one of Sora's folk and Trask can take third watch.
Subject to agreement or changes by the other players.
If things are clear through the night, I propose that we set a watch up above, keep one person at the top of the stairs to really an emergency call from the watch down the stairs or vice-versa and the rest of us go investigate the secret door and see what that is all about. (After breakfast and any other needed chores of course)

(After breakfast and any other needed chores of course) Sounds fine with me. Except . . . how is the watch upstairs supposed to communicate with the folk below? I mean, if it's just a single stairwell and an open room below, that's fine. But once we're past the first couple of turns, we probably won't be able to hear a full-blown battle above us, much less a single guy shouting. Maybe a rope that our last-in-line carries, that the watcher can yank on?

Maybe we should just drop that and proceed without the middle person, should we add that person to the outer watch or to the investigative party?

How many characters do we have (not counting Sora's warhorse)? I think we're at 14 or so, aren't we? So . . . seven upstairs and seven downstairs? With each of us having characters in both halves? That way, whichever half gets in trouble, none of us are left out of the action.

After consulting in low voices with his three companions, Sora announces for the sub-group, "As there is no sense in disturbing established partnerships, Josiah and I will go with those who elect to enter the underground, while our newfound friends . . ."
Here Sora gestures at the other two human Mulviggians, who in unity nod at the rest of the party.
". . . will remain above ground."
Then all four holy warriors ready themselves appropriately.

[Ref's voice: to get things moving I'll narrate what happens over night.]
Darkness swallows the Raven wood, yet moonlight filters down into the man made glade where the hunting lodge is located. The people on watch above see movement occasionally in the trees and a few familiar forms move toward the lodge's gate but their spines stand up as they close with the gates, letting out whimpers and them low growls as they get close. After several minutes they wander back into the woods and are not seen again. After a long night the sun creeps above the trees pushing away the darkness, though the early spring cold lingers.
What shall you all do this morning?

[OOC: So we *did* wait for morning before venturing below . . .]
Sora and his fellows are all up at the crack of dawn for morning prayers, then busy themselves getting ready for the day.
[OOC: Not sure exactly who has which duties, but all will cooperate with the rest of the party to split up the various tasks equitably.]

Until I get my fever under 101, Mine characters will take suggestions from (in order)
My dwarfish chap - suspiciously, from Sora (He's still not sure Sora is what he says he is. Khzd are a suspicious folk.)
Axel - Hunter, when Hunter can make him focus.
Hunter - plays it by ear, but sees Darci's human as the closest thing to a voice of reason. Mainly protects Axel, and protects the party from Axel's absent-mindedness or obsession.

[Ref's voice: I'll be introducing The Perilous Dreamer 's characters briefly and let TPD take it from there to get things going.]
Depending on who might be on watch you see a few shadows move into the light from the tree line cautiously heading towards the gate stopping well short of it. "Ho Inside! We followed a trail that led here from a ruined stead to the south west. Can we gain admittance to rest a bit and maybe exchange info before we head out to the north? What say you?", says one of the cloaked figures as they lift up their hoods baring their heads - showing elfin features to those on guard.

Looking over the rampart at the new arrivals, Sora calls down, "Greetings, fellow travellers. Be you lawful?" "Greetings! Lawful are we, sent by the Elders to find the cause of the beast-men and the taint spreading south into the Vale," Yoren replies. "May we enter and gain shelter?"

Enter and be sheltered."Raising his voice, Sora adds, "Josiah, open the gate!"The elves enter and the leader Yoren says, "These three are my brother Loren and our cousins Toren and Zoren. Should you ever grace our halls, our hospitality and safety shall be extended to you and shelter there you will find. " At that all four execute a formal bow. I see you are of the folk that the superstitious among the humans call the demon-kind, but I have heard little of your folk. What is your own name for yourselves, young Paladin?"

Sora stiffens at being called - however indirectly and politely - "demon-kind," but replies courteously enough.
"We call ourselves Clan Damocleese. I be Sora of that name and - as you surmise - I am a paladin of Mulvigg. Many generations ago, my ancestors encountered lost travellers from another plane and took them in. My mother tells that I bear a much stronger resemblance to those long-ago strangers than most of our relations. I have certainly never encountered anyone of similar visage to myself, not that I have searched. Based upon my own lack of popularity with the general run of Men, I would not wish to be discovered either, were I them."
Gesturing at the large Human who opened the gate for the newcomers, "This is my compatriot Josiah. Although he has taken no vows as of yet, he is also a servant of Mulvigg and my sturdy right hand."
As others of the company approach, Sora allows each of them to make their own introductions to the four elves. [NOTE: This includes my other two PCs, whose names currently slip my mind!]
