Interesting spell concept I use nearly the exact same thing. Spells being living entities that are "trapped within the mortal mind" I feel this deserved its own thread. There have been a lot of good ideas recently about how to make spells more "Vancian". A few of my favorites are: A magic-user is able to converse with spells inside his head. Be careful about memorizing two spells that don't like each other! Alternately, some spells may refuse to be memorized, and attempt to inconvenience the magic-user in every way possible, unless memorized with another spell that they're chummy with. Elementals, etc, are just really big angry spells, so don't pick on a fireball or water-breathing spell unless you want to fight with their older brothers. Memorized spells disappear from their spell-books until cast. To enchant an item with a spell requires imprisoning the spell within it, and will cost a magic-user a copy of his spell. jrients.blogspot.ca/2008/06/just-so-you-know-this-is-vancian-magic.htmlswashbucklershideout.blogspot.ca/2011/07/vancian-d.html

Finally you can't have Vancian magic without Vancian magicians.
Remember to deck out magic users with a fancy hat, sword, & mustachios worthy of Errol Flynn.
