I have noticed that in some fantasy books (The Katherine Kurtz Deryni books for instance) the magic-user types make extensive use of wards (warding spells) to keep things out or in, to set off alarms and many, many other uses. I am curious about whether or not any of you have added these spells to OD&D and if so, how you have used these spells and to what extent. If you did use them, how did they work in the game and do you have a writeup that you will share with us.

After I read the Deyrni books, cubes of wards minor and major showed up in my game as a magic item... I don't remember the details of what that actually accomplished though.
