At first I really recoiled at the whole old school mix and mash of "fantasy" and "science fiction." I am trying to embrace that more, now. So here goes: ROBOTS! CLOCKWORK HD 4; AC 3; #appear 10-100; Move 6; Lair 10%; TT as per master Mainspring will run down after an hour of exploration or 5 rounds of combat. Range: daisy-spring pellet gun from index finger. DMG d6. Melee: bludgeon with arms. DMG d6. Clockwork robot will attempt to grapple. If successful, robot will violently shake character with quick release of mainspring. DMG 2d6. STEAMWORK HD 8; AC 2; #appear 2-12; Move 9; Lair 20%; TT as per master Fires will burn out after 4 hours of exploration or 10 rounds of combat. Range: steam-rifle from index finger. DMG d6+1. Melee: steam-hammer arms. DMG d6+1. Steam-work robot will attempt to grapple. If successful, robot will burn character with a release of steam. DMG 2d6+2. Character may save against ½ damage. Character will continue to take d6 DMG per round until free from grip. ELECTRONICAL HD 12; AC 1; #appear 1-6; Move 12; Lair 30%; TT as per master Batteries will discharge after a day of exploration or 4 turns of combat. Range: Thomas A. Swift Electronical Rifle (TASER) from index finger. DMG 2d6. Melee: arms as electrically charged batons. DMG 2d6 (1 from bludgeon, 1 from electric shock). Electronical robot will attempt to grapple. If successful, robot will shock character as "lighting bolt," 12d6 DMG. Character may save against ½ damage. Any character who successfully hits robot with metal weapons will receive a shock dealing d6 DMG. If robot turned over there is a danger of acid from the batteries.

Hells yes. I like including supertech myself, but it's rare, sometimes unpredictable, and often held by only the richest and most powerful. Golden robotic constructs guard metal vaults far below the city. One of the PCs is a recently re-activated "almost human" construct. It didn't take us/me long to figure out how they fit in and it made for a much better background.

Cool, tetramorph! When I was younger I wasn't much into blending science fiction and fantasy, but nowadays I certainly can see how it can be done in really cool ways. Thanks for sharing!

I recoil instinctively from the shaggy god story and other such tropes, but I'm not averse to having the tick-tock men pop up here and there as hints to some truly Other technology - going sideways rather than forward or back in time. I find the ones you've picked are the silly ones though.

I am a bit familiar with "shaggy god," but I cannot make the connection to it that you are making here, Von. Help me out. Going sideways, yes, I like that. Spot on. Yes, the ones I present above are the silly ones. I can't really imagine using them in my Dun Kells setting which is (perhaps, at times, a bit too) serious and "high fantasy." No, I am exactly going with these because I am imagining them in the more rolicking "gonzo" style 0e campaigns that I also enjoy. "Silly," in that context, is exactly what allows them through the door. But what about your very serious ones, Von? I'd love for you to share some descriptions and stats!

The shaggy god story is that one where it turns out that the characters end up being Adam and Eve. I find the fantasy-with-robots concept easily ends up in the same "oh, this again?" territory, that's all - and I've never had much taste for gonzo. That said I do run the Warhammer World in that kind of style and I have no problems with mysterious plasma guns from the forty-first millennium turning up in the Realm of Chaos now and then, so it's possible that I'm kvetching over nothing.
If I were going to include something like robots in current gaming they would technically be walking phylacteries of varying kinds. Does that still count?

In one campaign the PCs found several "tin men", little metal men with hollow cylinders for chests (kinda like Bender from Futurama) in which floating wisps of "soul" flicker. They were constructed by a weird alchemist/wizard and left over in his shop. My players kept those little guys alive for awhile as henchmen/familiars and felt terrible when the last one died. The adventure is in one of the Fight On! and this artist drew them for the magazine. Awesome art! linky

Treasure Hunters has robots, androids, clock works and golems. Automata are almos as fun to fight against as undead!

I like crashed ancient spaceships, scattered bits of tech and weapons, a lone surviviing combat mech and such scattered around.
