Mighty Darci has expressed an interest in playing Traveller. I might be willing to run a Traveller pBp game on these forums using the Murkhill Subsector if there is enough interest. I am more than okay with a person playing a group of characters if need be. I can probably drum up interest from my regular players of other games if need be. Please comment if you are interested

I think this would be really cool if others are interested. Looks like I will need to try to get a copy of the rules.

Rules probably aren't needed, except for your own personal curiosity. I find most online games all you need is a few guidelines and let the ref handle th erest

I am getting interested in the rules, because if we get to play, then I am really considering creating an alternate universe for Traveller as a long term project. As a good way to go with the MIY advice elsewhere on the forum. A Traveller universe and an OD&D universe - I'm set for the rest of my life. (I know start small, baby steps, don't force it and sound out potential players)

Would you stick with LBB1-3, makofan, and if so, 1977?

Unfortunately, my physical copies of the 3 LBB are long gone. I would probably use 1981 Books 1-3 plus Supp 04 Citizens of the Imperium for chargen, modified of course by our subsector species. I would use my house rules for combat, and use a modified Book 2 combat using range bands instead of vectors, and abstracting computers (Basically, you can't use a skill like Pilot or Gunnery, or a ship function like Maneuver or Jump that is higher than your computer rating, and hulls have hit points). Then, as gronan would do, I'd make up some sh*t that was fun.
I might try vector combat as in a PbP game I would have time to do all the calculations. Need to think about that

How often would we need to post?

This sounds like fun, but I might have to drop one or two other games. I think I can realistically only handle one PbP game at a time.

This sounds like fun to me, too! I think I can handle one more PbP game...

I am willing to run one. The main issue is having the players all pulling in the same direction. If one wants to be a merc squad, one wants to make a living as a free trader, and a third wants to be a pirate, we have an issue

If one wants to be a merc squad, one wants to make a living as a free trader, and a third wants to be a pirate, we have an issue Merc squad, free trader, pirate, navy patrol or navy scout (or other). I would love to play any of them! So I will be very easy to get along with on that front. So why don't we do this, anyone who wants to play, post your first, second and third choice or just post the one that interests you the least. A little minor negotiation and we should be good on that issue.

I would be interested in a scout or merchant ship exploring the sub sector.

I always prefer to play a Scout, but since they tend to be jacks of all trades, they can fit in to any sort of adventure.

Ok makofan, as requested it is all set up for you to run your game. I have initially set it up so that only you can create threads (Well Vile Traveller and I can), but any member can post and reply in any thread you start that is not locked. Let me know if you need anything else!

Come on down! Do you have any Traveller versions? Excellent! I've played every variation of Traveller I could find since 1980 - it was my first exposure to the hobby. I currently play a slightly modified non-Imperium game using the 1981 version as a base. - I use range-bands for space battles from the Starter set - Jack-of-all-Trades is an ability rather than a skill with levels - The first round of combat isn't simultaneous (D&D-style initiative) I'll start cooking up my character. If it's helpful for the game I have a version of the first three books with the above modifications in Word format (to allow additional mods). Many thanks Mike
