The Rules for the thread are as follow:

• The item(s) you post about must be free in monetary cost. Not freebies you get only when you buy something else.
• No links to those sites that let you download pirated copies of other people's material. (Violation of ProBoards TOS)
• Links to blogs etc about free games are OK.
• Free versions of things you produce are acceptable as are PWYW products as long as that includes a pay nothing option.

This thread includes games and resources and random generators and websites for same.

There are also some files shared in the MeWe group and I will have to figure out a way to get them here, since we can't link to stuff inside MeWe, aside from join links.

Kevin Crawford offers his Without Number core rules line (Stars, Worlds, Cities) in free versions. These are brilliantly done mash-ups of B/X and Classic Traveller mechanics with some quality “house rules” to create a system familiar to grognards but with a variety of options and ascending AC that make it appealing to newbs. They all come with minimal settings built-in but are easily jettisoned for your own setting. And they are fully cross compatible so sci-fi, fantasy, and cyberpunk merge together and are even largely reverse compatible with his earlier Cthulhu hack “Silent Legions”.

Here's my go to for "free" PDF version of a variety of genres. I particularly like raiding the White Dwarf, Dragon and Dungeon magazine posts. If you do a proper search you can even find "Shipwreck".

Given that the Internet Archive has been made to remove some things from download and make them something that can be borrowed for a set length of time like any other brick and mortar library and given that none of the IP holders for these old magazines have objected and given that none of these magazines are for sale anywhere by the IP holders AND given that they will NEVER be for sale anywhere by the IP holders, IMO it is a moot point. That said, it would be completely ethical for them to offer them as something that can borrowed for a set length of time that would expire. The Internet Archive is not operating in some hard to find dark corner, so if the IP holders have an objection, it would be easy for them to say so, especially for WotC.

20 Encounters in the Ruins of the Elder Beings.

After I finished H.P. Lovecraft´s story “At the Mountains of Madness” the GM in me dreamed about an adventure that would take place in some (other) subterranean ruins of the Elder Beings. Another city or outpost, perhaps smaller, or just the caverns that would lead to its entrance, about the strange creatures that could have developed there, based on some breeding stock the Elder Beings once kept. I thought about the Elder Beings attempting to slowly retake those places they left as they moved back into the oceans so long ago, about a renewal of their conflict with the Mi-Go, one that is only at the beginning as Mi-Go recon parties try to locate and gauge the erstwhile settlements and strongholds of their rivals. And about what could happen when a party of adventurers would stumble upon all of this, on their search for riches or ancient wisdom.

As I was not able to create a full-blown adventure out of my ideas, I rather created a set of 20 structured encounters. The difference to (completely) random encounters is that some of them are preliminary encounters that will trigger certain other encounters as a follow-up (or will be triggered instead of their follow-ups). In addition, a simple frame was given for the encounters and stats for six creatures and two strange items

This was made for LotFP, but will for sure work with any other OSR fantasy game, too. Enjoy, take it for free!
