She pauses, then barely shakes her head, looking at the line of smoke and not looking back at you. "No, no one I know. I know no one in these parts." She keeps walking. Edwin nods his head, not in approval, but in recognition of her words. "Alina, what parts are you from?", inquires Edwin. She keeps walking, almost as if in a dream, not looking over at Edwin or returning her gaze, even for a moment, to the line of smoke. The snowy landscape looks still before Edwin. The boots seem to be a solidly good pair for such a hike. Suddenly a bit of wind comes in and moves the line of smoke, and Edwin notes the time between when he sees it happen and feels it against his own face. With so few landmarks and such low wind most of the trip so far, he is beginning to get a feel for himself out on the open land, different from the way he feels at home, nestled most days within the walls of the town. It feels freeing...but there is another feeling that goes with the freedom. Alina now seems totally alone, walking her own way, having forgotten her chance fellow-walker. Some of the day has worn, but there are still many hours to go before dark.

Edwin keeps pace with Alina as she walks on in a determined manner.
Maybe she doesn't want to talk? I won't pry anymore but I'll do my best to help her reach her destination.
"Onward we go." states Edwin as the pair continue their journey.

They walk in silence for perhaps another hour before the wind begins to kick up a bit again. They are now heading north-northwest. Some grouse fly up from the direction of the wood, and another thin line of smoke comes into view. Edwin is used to eating something around this hour, but feels no special need to stop right away.

I could keep going for a while before stopping to eat. I wonder how Alina is holding up.As they continue on Edwin asks, "Alina, are you hungry?" pausing slightly before adding, "I could prepare us something. It might do us both some good to take a rest and fill our bellies.". Edwin waits for an answer without stopping.

She walks a few steps, slows down, stops, and turns to Edwin. "I brought little," she says, her eyes focusing on him at last. "I will share what I have." Her manner changes some.
Edwin and Alina are certainly in the open here.

Edwin and Alina are certainly in the open here. "Oh, no need for that. I will share with you. I have no doubt my mother over-prepared me in that area!" states Edwin as he chuckles for a brief moment. Looking around he notices that they are in the clear and decides they should probably eat off of the path. "How about we find a place off of the open path to rest and have a bit to eat?".

Alina nods, swallows, and looks around at the landscape as if for the first time. Looking the way they were headed, there is snowy waste all around, though marked with the edge of Royce Wood a good ways off to the right. In that direction, but only a hundred yards or so from where they stand, Edwin can see that the ground breaks in what he suspects, given what's around it, to be a low overhang.

Edwin stated as he continued to look around before continuing, "Besides, we can always go back and see if the smoke comes from some sort of inn..."

She nods and begins heading over in that direction with Edwin, toward the apparent overhang. Her manner now seems slightly different, more relaxed and alert somehow. A fox appears some twenty feet to their left as they head toward the overhang, then darts back and disappears on seeing them. The wind blows a little harder and colder than before. It might not be a bad idea to get some food in your bellies.

"The fox is a good sign of no larger animals in this area." Edwin states as they watch the small creature scurry away after being startled by their presence.
Edwin advances up to the lowest branches of the tree and inspects the immediate area. Resting his foot upon a log laying near the tree, Edwin observes, "We can use this to keep from sitting on the ground. The tree has stopped most of the snow from collecting here but it will still be colder on the ground.".
Edwin reaches up and begins breaking some of the very small growths from the tree to serve as a bed for the fire and says, "Alina, take a load off. I'll get this started up momentarily.". Edwin gestures at the log and continues to collect a pile of small branches to use as kindling.
"It won't be long and we'll have a meal while we rest for a short while." states Edwin as he continues about his task.
