Biswil: Bad news, it's orcs and they are usually not friendly. Keep hidden, even on this side of the river, as there might be sentries or hunting parties about. Thomas: Bad news already?! Hopefully, we can avoid any unnecessary conflict. Is there a large group? "Orcs? True orcs?" Sor sounds desparing and intrigued at the same time. "Is it truly so?" Hearne says, "You never know with orcs, we have met a few orcs in our hunting and scouting travels and haven't had to fight, but on the other hand this is an entire village. Hard to say, we might be able to peacefully pass through or we might have to flee for our lives. Our experiences so far is that the ones we have met were not looking for trouble, but then we were not in their territory at the time."
Holter replied, "There could be 200 to 300 or more orcs in this village. If we go on down to the riverbank, they will probably have an outpost. We can try to go down and talk with them or we can travel downstream and look for a place were the river broadens out and it might be easier to cross. Also we need to know if this whole river is dotted with orc villages, because even if they let us pass, it might be a different thing on the way back."

Sor says, "Maybe we can make them think it's to their good to let us pass."

Thomas: "'I've never had any direct dealings with Orcs so....well, all I know are the rumors. I really have no input into this matter. Of course, if we could pass peacefully ti would be a great blessing to us all.".

Sor steps closer to Thomas, as if in fellowship forged by this news. "Passing peacefully is best, but how to tell them we mean them no harm? Maybe just tell them?"

Thomas: "Sor, I'm not sure but certainly they can understand at least simple language. The fact that they have villages should prove that there is more to them than t simple man beasts of some sort?".

Thomas: "There's just one way to find out..." trailing off at the end of his statement as the answer is obvious.

Biswil: I should stay out of sight then, my people have a history with orcs.
He climbs back in a tree.

Thomas: "Let's not make our decision in haste. We should talk it out amongst the group. Someone may have more experience with the Orcs. There are many of them but only a few of us. Besides, not all manner of folk has been touched by the benevolence of The One God.".

OOC: You are at the top of a cliff (the climb down will take about two hours to get to the river bank on your side of the river) and the only orcs you are see are inside a village on the opposite side of the river above flood level.

"Yes, best to see whether we can avoid these creatures whenever possible" adds Biswil (after climbing down, that is)

Thomas: "Not all of the world's inhabitants travel the road of peace. I agree. We should go downstream to see if we can avoid conflict altogether.".

OOC: Sorry for the delay, I was not around most of the weekend.
You retrace your steps to the top of the hill and travel on the top of the cliffs for a couple of hours.
Do you continue on this way or do you find your way down to the river and look around? Or something else?

I vote for finding our way down to the river at this point to do a little scouting before making a decision.
