As I said, every adventurer belongs to a House (clan). Each House consists of 50-100 families and when they reach 100 families they will normally split into two new Houses. A House is ruled by the one of the oldest and most powerful males. Any other male may challenge for the leadership at any time and it is a very ritualized combat and breaking the rules always results in the death of the one who broke them. As is the custom, such a dishonorable one is stripped and thrown to the wild animals along with his wife and children and their slaves. They are never spoken of again and they never existed.
Every couple of years there is a gathering of the Houses in a Great Meeting of the Houses, where they come together to trade goods and to trade the young women of the Houses, since two young people from the same house or closely related houses may not mate. Young women of great beauty can bring a lot of wealth to the House of her mother as other Houses bid to purchase her for one of their sons. They also have the Games of the Great Houses, where many contests are held and young and old show off their athletic prowess, strength and power.
This is a time of truce among the Houses and any interference from one of the enemies of man, can result in a large war party killing and enslaving those enemies over a wide area, because of this these Great Meetings of the Houses are usually given a wide berth by all who are not real men. This is a time of great feasting and celebration and the evenings are filled with the greatest men of each House proclaiming their exploits over the last couple of years in dramatic fashion. During this time of great celebration many children are fathered.
