A debate from the good old days. Do you prefer Star Trek, Star Wars, or something else?

I'm going to go with "I can't decide" but only when it covers the original Star Wars trilogy vs. Star Trek TOS. When it gets to all the other shows, sequels, prequels, etc. I think it goes to the point of diminishing returns.

I am very much a Star Trek TOS fan first by at least an order of magnitude over the original Star Wars trilogy.

I would rate Star Trek TOS and TNG both ahead of Star Wars.

I can't say I really know either franchise well.
Considering what I know, definitely Trek (mostly TNG and some of TOS).
Always willing to learn more about what makes people love Star Wars.

Star Trek and Star Wars fill me with nostalgia but scratch different itches for me.
I remember staying up "late" until 10 pm as a young child to watch episodes of Star Trek. When ST: The Motion Picture was released, it was a huge event as the local theater had posters and calendars for sale in the lobby and the front glass had a huge Enterprise on it with white shoe polish. During the summer I would make sure I watched Star Trek every night. We saw all the movies over the years. When Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted on TV it was a big deal as well. I remember sitting around the TV with a few friends and some parents while the pilot played. It's unfortunate that the last two TNG movies were just downright terrible. On a side note, I would have preferred if we got Star Trek, Star Trek Phase II, and then Star Trek: The Next Generation before continuing on with other TV series. I always thought it could have developed quite differently. Who knows?
Star Wars is the first movie I remember seeing repeatedly in the theater. It was also a big event and when new entries were released people would go all out and wear costumes to the movies. The original trilogy is great and has an awesome villain with a redemption arc in Darth Vader. Unfortunately, Star Wars started taking a downward spiral early with the prequels. I feel like they were hit and miss. The sequel trilogy completely ruined my appetite for Star Wars. The more that gets added, the less I like it AND they completely made the sacrifice of Anakin mean nothing when they brought Emperor Palpatine back in The Rise of Skywalker. In short, I love the original trilogy, I like the prequel trilogy, and I absolutely hate the sequel trilogy.
Now that I've had time to jot down my thoughts, I am no longer undecided. Star Trek is the preferred franchise for me.

Much prefer Star Trek, specifically TOS.
Star Wars took a big step back with the prequel trilogy. The Sequel Trilogy is IMO not canon and never will be. Someday the whole thing needs to be remade and this time do them all in chronological order. AND Jar Jar Binks has to go.

It would have been extremely cool if they would have taken a serious look at some of the Expanded Universe novels for future movies. A live action Thrawn series of films would have been AWESOME!

I think where they originally went off the rails, was two things, one was starting in the middle of the story and two was not making the prequels and sequels all within 10 years max of when the first trilogy came out. Even better would have been to put out one movie a year for nine straight years. Then 35-40 years later, do your remake, staying true to the original, with modern movie making tech.

Star Trek shame TOS did not run for at least 10 years. Star Wars, they should have made 20 movies in the 70s and 80s. But I don't like the "prequels" or the "sequels" and maybe if they had made them all close together they would have been a lot better.

Star Trek
I like all of the Star Trek TV series except the latest Star Trek: Discovery which is not as good as the others. Movies are all lesser than.

I prefer Star Wars, but I would prefer to redo all of it from scratch. The first three are dated due to the advances in technology. The other movies were not up to the quality of the first three, mainly due to the long delay in making them and George Lucas losing his way during the intervening years. Oh, and we have to get it away from Disney as they seem to have forgotten how to make movies.

Star Wars, but they need to make the Jedi a lot smarter, when they do the remakes.

Star Wars, remake the original trilogy and then start clean to continue from there.

I remember that feeling of watching or reading something so much that it seemed to blend with the season. And although I was pretty young, I also saw the NextGen pilot and (around that time) saw when they aired "The Cage," the previously unaired first pilot for TOS. Wikipedia tells me this was in 1988. No one was around telling me Star Trek was great or this was so important, but it somehow made a deep impression on me. I remember an unusual feeling while watching "The Cage," though I'm sure I barely even understood the episode. TOS and TNG both have a kind of magic. Chemistry. For me it is more palpable in the cast in TNG and more in the writing and story ideas in TNG. I guess I got a sense of that somehow from watching "The Cage."
