In Xul, lots of different drugs are to be found for a variety of purposes. Here are some examples:
Lotus flowers:
Black lotus
The fumes of the black lotus are sedative, and induces a dreamlike state of mind. Often used by sorcerers during magic rituals, but high doses might be lethal. This lotus is very rare, and only grows in deep jungles.
Blue lotus
The blue lotus makes a very potent and addictive drug. The petals are dried and smoked. It's a strong sedative, inducing a powerful sense of euphoria. This lotus mostly grows in the eastern parts of Xul, with the city-state of Quantoun as the center for trade.
Green lotus
The green lotus, found in swamps, have strong central nervous system stimulating effects. Usually it's smoked or made into tea. When the effects are wearing off the user experience nausea and fatigue.
Pink lotus
When ingested, the newly plucked petals of the pink lotus is a strong and addictive aphrodisiac, enhancing the physical and emotional sensations as well as granting its user erotic dreams. When used as incense, the effect is similar but milder.
Purple lotus
The purple lotus grows in the swamps of Xul. The fresh petals have a strong hallucinogenic effect when ingested.
Red lotus
Red lotus powder grants a deathless sleep, where the user falls into a coma-like state, in no need for food or water. In this state, the user doesn't age, and can only be awoken by the fumes of incense made from the green lotus. Red lotus is rare, and grows only high up in mountain regions in northern and central Xul.
White lotus
Tea made from white lotus grants the user temporary clairvoyance, but the side effects include nausea, fever and delirium.
Yellow lotus
The yellow lotus, only found deep in the steaming jungles of Xul, is a fearsome poison. Just the scent of it may cause coma, and when ingested it is lethal.
Other drugs:
Blood root
The blood root is found in the woodlands of northern Xul, as well as on some of the western islands. It's appearance is reminiscent of the mandrake, but black on the outside and blood red on the inside. When ingested, it induces a fearless and aggressive state of mind, making it a drug of choice for certain tribal warriors.
Brass beetle
This is a bronze-coloured scarab found in desert regions. When ingested (usually after roasting it) it makes the user more alert as well as granting temporary night vision. When the effects are wearing off, the user usually experiences nausea and mild paranoia.
Gallows herb
This rose-like flower grows on burial sites in northern Xul. The petals can be used as poison, but the roots can be used to make a tea that grants the user communication with dead spirits.
Lysergic worm
This is actually a misnomer, since the lysergic worms really are larvae. About an inch long, thick and fluorescent, they live in damp caves in the jungle regions of south western Xul. When ingested raw, they have a hallucinogenic effect.
Magic mushrooms
The so called magic mushrooms grow throughout most parts of Xul. Commonly used by primitive tribes for its mild hallucinogenic effects, usually for ceremonial purposes.
Moonflower dust
This rare plant - small white flowers appearing with a pale glow in the dark - grows in forest regions in the northern parts of Xul. Some tribes are known to pluck the flowers and use the dried petals to make a tea with mild central nervous system stimulating effects.
Rust lichen
The rust lichen - having its name from its rusty brown colour - is found in caves throughout Xul. It has medicinal effects, and is used to heal wounds. But it also has some mild psychoactive side effects, being slightly sedative and causing euphoria.
Swamp weed
This common weed grows in swamp regions, and when dried it can be smoked. The effects include feelings of euphoria, alteration of the conscious perception and sleepiness.
