I watched Venom 2 on opening night with my son. I thought it was really well done. I was a huge fan of Venom in the comic books and I was always concerned about any movies portraying the character correctly. The first movie had me worried about not including Spider Man because the those two characters are highly involved with each other early on. The first movie had a good story and successfully pulled off not having any involvement from Spider Man. I was kind of surprised that they went with Carnage at this point in the timeline, but it worked. I would see it again in the theater and I will definitely buy the DVD. It has one of the best post-credit scenes so far. Well worth sticking around for. What's the latest movie you have watched?

A few weeks ago, I saw The Green Knight, IMO it is a help if you know the history and various versions of the story going in. Also bear in mind that they blended more than one story/myth together.
The lead roll was well acted IMO, although I thought the choice of actor was a little odd given where and who he is supposed to be.

I really need to get around to watching it. I'm so far behind on stuff I'm interested in watching. Ugh.

As part of my Shudder viewing, I stumbled upon V/H/S 94. It's the 4th entry in the series and much more in line with the first 2 movies; in fact, it may the best of the bunch. If you're into found footage horror you might like it...

It IS the month for Halloween so I continue to watch horror movies. I watched SUPERHOST earlier. It was fun and the ending wasn't typical.

Some of it is clearly done for gore out the wazoo & that's not cool

I tend to hit the $5 DVDs at the big box stores. I'm a cheapskate, hate concession prices and enjoy an adult beverage while watching. Also, having an aging bladder, the ability to pause is a must! Last movie I watched was Force of Nature. Mel Gibson phones-it-in but it was still a pretty entertaining thriller. Also enjoying The Watch, a BBC series based on Terry Pratchitt's Disc World novels.

And you don't get blown out of the theater by the massive volume at which the movies are played these days. I have however been accused of turning the volume up occasionally...

We've got one episode left to go on the Netflix limited series Midnight Mass. The town is almost quintessentially the isolated border town and you could pretty much lift this story and make it an adventure in a small hamlet somewhere. It's also not what you expect, over and over, until you know what it is and then you just want to see how it plays out. Definitely recommended.
P.S. If you like playing music in a game, the soundtrack has been released and it'd make a good background for Barrowmaze (since it's largely a modern, dark reimagining of gospel music and hymns, along with some horror-genre atmosphere elements).

I just finished watching TIME LAPSE before fixing lunch. It's on Shudder but it's more science fiction than horror. It's not bad. It's an interesting little film about seeing into the future and how it affects your actions and, of course, the consequences. Worth a look.

I went to the theater earlier and watched Halloween Kills. If you're into these films then you should really enjoy this one. Nostalgia plays a big part in this film by having g characters from the original 1978 film back to the forefront. This film does include gore but it isn't sensationalized. The gore is used for effect showing how these characters and how survivors are affected. In short, Halloween Kills is not just another senseless slasher.

I saw Passengers (2016) in a theater with my wife, we loved it. I saw The Green Knight (2021) in a theater, great movie and it helps if you know the original story and some of the others that are grafted into it. And of course I just saw Dune.

My son and I went to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home last night and it's incredibly well done! The story is interesting, and all of the characters are written well. It deserves all of the praise I keep hearing about the movie. No Way Home is just a fun movie. I really didn't feel like anybody was filler on the screen. This movie could be considered a riff on Into the Spider-Verse, but I will add that it also serves as a greatest hit of the live-action Spider-Man movies. It's nice to see these villains return to the big screen. The theater was pretty well packed for the 5 pm showing we went to and there was a crowd waiting for the next showing when we left. I noticed the parking was full the few times I passed it yesterday. Even though the "death of the big screen" has been predicted several times in recent years I really don't think that's the case. If you give the people an interesting story with relatable characters and can grab their attention in a positive manner, then I think the big screen will be just fine. I've heard reports that this is the highest opening day in quite some time with some really great numbers. I think the biggest hindrance for a large portion of the movies being released is that the creators forgot their purpose is to entertain instead of forcing THEIR politics down the throats of the viewers. Tell us a story about characters we like with plot twists, surprises, fake outs, etc. If I'm there to be entertained, that's what I want. Spider-Man No Way Home delivered.

OK, that makes me interested in seeing the movie. I have grown very tired of the endless Spiderman reboots covering the origin over and over and the changes in the actor playing Spiderman. If I were doing it, I would pick up right after the end of the 3rd Tobey Maguire movie and continue from there. To do it right IMO you take the actors and make a 10 movie series so that there is minimal aging between movies. Of course that would require a commitment to good writing of original stories. I have to be honest I did not like the Tom Holland casting that took Spiderman back to a young teen (which changes the origin from a college age origin) that is only about 5'4" tall in appearance. I want a Spiderman that is about 25 and 5'10" and is a smart aleck that makes funny wise cracks and who is a tough as nails experienced fighter who is - for all his angst - confident about his use of his abilities.

The Perilous Dreamer I completely agree with your thoughts. I understand why the recasting and rebooting happened; Sony was contractually obligated to release a new Spdier-Man movie every so often or lose the rights. What's the old saying about all the lawyers? I would very much like to see a Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Macquire or an Amazing Spider-Man 3 with Andrew Garfield. I really thought those 2 castings were done right. Venom was not handled correctly in Spider-Man 3 beginning with the casting of Topher Grace. In fact, Venom should have been a multiple movie story. The whole ordeal covers quite a bit of ground in the comics, and you need that build up to do it correctly. Overall, I though the villain choices in the Spider-Man movies was really well done until Venom and they could have done more. I enjoyed the first Amazing Spider-Man movie. I thought The Lizard was a great choice of villain and the plot could have been pulled from the comic books. The casting involved some really good choices. I would have liked to see more movies before the death of Gwen Stacy for the sake of emotional investment. The sequel was a bit of a mess. Electro was a good choice of a classic Spidey villain, but he should have been done more in line with the portrayal in No Way Home. I wasn't a fan of the blue skin. After getting Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin in the earlier films to get the abomination that was the Green Goblin in this film as a major step back. He came across as a meth head instead of a villlain. I concur about Tom Holland. There isn't anything "wrong" with his portayal but I prefer a college aged Spidey.

I just watched ZODIAC again. It may be my favorite movie. It's a fascinating real-life case and the movie has some scenes that are truly creepy. I wonder if they did have the actual Zodiac in questioning at one time and he slipped through the cracks.

Especially given that a lot of serial killer apparently try to get close to the investigation.
