I might be in the market for a clone If you are going to buy a hard copy versus using the free pdf and printing it yourself, Delving Deeper or Iron Falcon would be the best choices. They are the most old school of the best known choices.

It's a deal breaker. If I am going to ago through the trouble of rewriting an entire class, I might as well do something else. I just had the though that you inspired. I could just use something in print. HMMMMM. I'll def think about it. I never should have stop playing 1ed. I should have just bit the bullet and got rid of my only written house rule for it, my power creeped skill system. but I didn't want tp tick off my players

mao I've been wore out all week from work so I'm just now getting to this but I can highly recommend Delving Deeper. The 4th edition is a digest-sized volume of 130 pages at a price of $4.95 plus shipping. The pdf is free and I will get a spiral bound copy printed up sometime just so I don't put any stress on my pod copy; not a quality issue, I just like the convenience of spiral binding for table use. I'm going to cover this in greater detail at some point but DD highly respects the origin and natural development of the rules and here's some things from the first section, HEROES & MAGIC, that might be of interest: 1. Alignment is Law, Chaos, and Neutral. 2. Six Abilities listed and generated in original order of S, I, W, D, C, and Ch. 3. Classes are Cleric, Fighter, and Magic-User with Thief as an optional class. 4. Each class has a prime requisite that affects how much less or more they need to gain levels according to the scorre. 5. Races are Human, Halfling, Dwarfs, and Elves. 6. Levels go up to 12 but Humans can go further and each demi-human race has class level limits. 7. Armor is DESCENDING AC. This should all be sounding really familiar at this point...

just 2 questions Hit dice? Weapon damage? All Hit Dice are D6. The fighter improves the best, MU second best, and cleric third, Weapon damage is 1-6 hit points adjusted for strength, magical weaponry, and other factors. There are exceptions like spears set to receive a charge do up to 12 points. 0 hit pints = slain.

This should all be sounding really familiar at this point... The order of the six abilities is a shibboleth. The original 1974 D&D order of Abilities is S, I, W, C, D, and Ch. And of course the original was Hobbits not Halflings and DD cannot write Hobbits for the same reason TSR/WotC cannot. I am really glad you are liking it. The fourth edition is even closer than the earlier editions and the 5th edition once fully complete will be even closer I've heard. When the 5th edition annotated version is done that is what I want a copy of for all of the footnotes.

But the OGL forces them to have minor differences.

Iron Falcon The PDF is Free and as noted on the 52nd revision. I even got a shout out because I did a proof read and gave feedback on it in the early days

I forgot Dexterity was actually second to last. I knew the Hobbit change; I tend to overlook that one because it was a necessary legal change. DD is pretty awesome! I am DEFINITELY getting the annotated version in print.

I like Gonnerman's site. I've been there several times throughout the years. Project 74 was a cool set of rules/hacks also. I have read some of that Iron Falcon stuff before but I think it's time to get a print copy.

OK I want LBB plus the following, Different hit dice for the classes. At least the big 4 classes, Ability mods for damage etc., I will be using my own weapons chart and MU rules so I don't care much how they are presented. I want to use something that my FLGS can sell. I don't like Lamentations of the Flame Princess for personal reasons same for Crypts and Things, other wise both would have been acceptable. Something a player can read and not a lot of house rules, I have already seen it in the two games I mentioned but need a good third option.I think this should explain it. The Perilous Dreamer

The Semi-Retired Gamer I want to know what you actually experienced reading the book, if anything. Did the fluff or into material feel at all fresh, at all inspiring? What does the text explicitly encourage? Are there useful tips for worldbuilding or improv? As far as the crunch goes, is it presented coherently? Does it feel like a more or less neat retread or more like it's own system? Is it modular enough to be used piecemeal? Would you want a print copy or just use it for online reference? How much innovation is there in the mechanics? Are there cool ideas that you can't get elsewhere?

The Semi-Retired Gamer what I would like to see in a game review are the following things 1. Any significant ways - ie rule changes and tone - that it differs from the game it is based on 2. What you like best about the ruleset - if any 3. What you like the least about the ruleset - if any 4. Any unusual twists 5. Anything you know about the author 6. Does it have elements that were introduced with 3E or later
