I became aware of the art of Frank Frazetta as a teenager, having seen some of his pieces used as covers for various RPG modules and magazines as well as album covers. I always liked his work, and knew he was a giant within his field. As the years have passed, my appreciation has grown, as well as my fascination. Today I consider him to be one of my all time favourite artists, and I find his works extremely inspirational. He was truly a master. Here are some links I thought could be nice to share for those of you interested: Frank Frazetta on WikipediaOfficial Frank Frazetta webpageUnofficial Frank Frazetta art gallery websiteFrank Frazetta art museum

I love Frank Frazetta and think he is by far the best artist of modern times. I might point out that a lot of his stuff is NSFW. Necromancer thank you for all of the art links - I posted an NSFW advisory - just in case - for each set of links

I agree that Frazetta's work was awesome. One of my favorite book series is my SFBC collection of BARSOOM books by Edgar Rice Burroughs and with Frazetta interior artwork.

Yeah to me he is the artist of choice for ERB and for REH. No one else really captures the energy the way that he does. I agree. Sure, there are other artists with great interpretations of Conan (Norem and Vallejo, for example), but there is something extra special about the works of Frazetta. He captured the mood of the stories like no one else - just like no one else than Howard managed to capture the mood and style of his own creation (even though many have tried, more or less succesful). I just had a brief look (again) through some of the paintings Frazetta did for both Barsoom and Conan in search for inspiration. Truly marvelous works. Masterpieces!

Didn't Frazetta draw Deathdealer, the guy with the possessed helm? I love his work and how he makes it dark. There are so many settings for D&D, and the Deathdealer seemed to fit in well with Conan. I had the comic book years ago, but lost it through all of the moves. Also had several of his trading cards.

Yeah, Frank F. Frazetta! \,,/_
Have anyone seen him in his prime? Check it out here (this is not an art gallery, but photos of the artist). The only fantasy artist who can get away with using himself to help model the iconic heroes he paints!
When he was young, he looked like James Dean; When he got older, he looked like Clint Eastwood.
I would say his middle-name is "Badass", but we all know its "%$#&ing".

He was also good friends with Bob Bledsaw, and provided Bob with licensed artwork for his games in later years, which was why the Necromancer games Wilderlands Boxed Sets featured Frazetta's Death Dealer Art on the cover. Bob didn't buy that, Frank gave that artwork to him to use. Back in the 70's and 80's Bob helped Frank sell art, and in addition to games you could also buy Frazetta art prints directly from Judges Guild via mail order, and many JG catalogs featured Frazetta Prints for sale.
The Lead singer for Molly Hatchett, Dave Hlubek, was also a personal friend of Frank Frazetta's and commissioned several fantasy pieces which ended up being Molly Hatchett album covers. When I was in Korea in 1985, one of my favorite hangouts in Yongsan was Molly Hatchett's, a heavy metal bar on the hilltop in Itaewon. It featured of course, great and extremely loud heavy metal music, and simply splendid floor to ceiling recreations of the best of Frank Frazetta paintings, including the Molly Hatchett Death Dealer album cover (which was different from the Wilderlands Boxed set Death Dealer, Frank painted many variations of the most famous of his paintings). In our off time, us soldiers enjoyed playing D&D there, carousing, and drinking. The Centaur in Full Plate featured in the cover of the Necromancer Games Player's Guide to the Wilderlands was a gift to Bob from Frank, when Bob decided to rebuild Judges Guild beginning right around 2001. Frank's heirs have opened his former art studio in Pennsylvania as a museum just a couple years back, and it is well worth a stop or visit if you happen to be in the neighborhood. They also sold a good selection of his original paintings at auction for many millions of dollars, but retain the rights for digital reprints, and continue deriving income from that. The museum website features a picture of Frank giving Clint Eastwood one of his paintings right on the front page, lol.

dragondaddy, that is some really interesting stuff about Frazetta. I wondered how Judges Guild had Frazetta art and D&D didn't. You said soldier, so you were in the Army? How did you play D&D with the music that loud? Isn't being able to hear pretty crucial?
