I must be the youngest member, xx now and yy later this year. We are not supposed to collect information from anyone under 16, unless you are opting in so you can have your age deleted if you wish, do you want to leave the info in your post? I am asking simply to protect the forum. It is your decision (and your parents). We are glad to have you here, we just have to follow the rules of Proboards.

I'm 75 years young and I would think that 65-80 would be the average age range of the bulk of the original D&D players who started with D&D from 1974-1977. For this forum at least, the poll seems to be bearing that out. While I am glad there are the whole range of young people here, I am also glad that the largest contingent are people that I can relate to.

I am really surprised that more people in that age range are not on the forums. But people my age (65) and older are not as heavily represented online as everyone younger than that is. On top of that I would imagine that only a fraction of those that played during 1974-1977 still play. Also sadly many have passed away, Arneson and Gygax among them. Plus a lot of us just get tired of the crap and the hoops they so many places expect us to jump through and I try to keep those things to a minimum here. I'm just glad a lot of people my age and older are here, no slight to anyone younger intended.

I agree and I think the older people are the less they roam and type on the Internet, because primarily they did not grow up with it. I love the Internet and forums and blogs, but that is not really the norm for people who did not grow up with the Internet or computers. There are 10s of millions of D&D players who will never even know D&D forums exist. Despite the size of ENWorld and RPGNET, they are still a drop in the bucket.

The more older folks I see on this board (I'm not so young myself anymore, but I mean folks who played when the game was first around), the more I think we should have some publication dedicated to the memories, techniques, and ideas of folks who were "active" players or refs in that era. It is great to know that all these people are here, but considering how fragmented we are socially these days, we need to preserve that knowledge in some form that won't be just scattered in five minutes.

Do you have something in mind? Yes, and I keep mentioning it and then not doing anything about it. Should probably clear it with Admin Pete because likely there is a better way to do it. I want to develop a set of prompts for, say, everyone on the forum who reffed in the 1970s and is willing to talk about it. Then we could collect that into a PDF. As I see it the most important thing is to hear from everyone who is willing to contribute. We can always format it beautifully or add art later once we have the text.

Why don't you go to the fanzine area and make a post and flesh out what you want to do. The Admin Pete can make a place of it to be moved to. Are you thinking about multiple threads with a separate prompt in each thread or a list of prompts and then each person picks one and starts there own thread with there thoughts on each prompt.

Reading about how people started playing on the 70s and how their first adventures developed, either as referees or players, is something I can't help but do every time I stumble on to someone taking about it. It's like a magnet for me. That would be a great idea, Hengest.

I will also comment that this appears to be the only forum where those of use over 60 are welcome and at the same time, all ages are welcome. That is both encouraging and discouraging at the same time, great that this forum is sol welcoming to the whole community and tragic that is not case elsewhere.

I would concur with that, I tried some other forums before I found this one and got a chilly response from the elitists, at my age I draw the line at having to pass some "purity" test in order to be allowed to talk about elf games.
