I was avoiding watching this, it's pretty cool and informative. Why were you avoiding it? I don't love informative videos. Something about the medium bothers me. But this was quite good.

Given a choice, I would want them all put into writing and once you remove stretching to make them 15-20 minutes long I would have a ton of 5 minute reads in place of thousands of hours of video.

I'm not really into videos or podcasts. They are usually very repetitive because as TPD noted, they stretch them out to a length that works better for analytics and promotion by youtube. Because of this many of them are very circular and indirect and beat around the bush a lot. I would rather they were more direct and got right to the point.

Thanks for the link. There was a lot of food for thought in the video. It made me realize that I had never really thought about the differences in torches, candles and lanterns much further than burn time and cost.
There are a lot of things to be considered in game about how lighting is handled. Considering that "Monsters are assumed to have permanent infravision" (LBB vol. 3 p. 9) the strategy of most intelligent dungeon monsters would be pretty reasonable to rush for the light source.
I think the subject material of these kinds of videos are great but I agree that it can be bothersome when they don't make use of the video medium to a higher degree. I mean it would for example have been great to see the differences in lighting now that it is a video.

You are right, they could have shown a lot more about how much light each one produces and how it is to move about with only that light. They also produce different amounts of smoke and CO2, both of which become important in enclosed spaces.

Yeah, torches don't burn for hours, like we all thought they did when we were kids. All those movies with torches that seemed to burn forever, you never saw one go out and be replaced.
