Gil ... says, "I think we ought to try the building over there. Maybe it's the quarters for this Steward Jones guy we're suppose to hand this to." Tapping his coat under which he has the small package, "I'm not handing this over until I see the money he's supposed to deliver." "Sounds reasonable."Peng starts off toward the other building. "I'm bettin' 'Steward' don't refer to the crew position."Then Peng cocks his head and adds in a musing tone: "Or maybe it did, long time back. These hick religions are like that. What meant something simple to Great Grandpappy gets all dressed up fancy after bein' passed down a few gens." "You could be right." Gil shrugs, "Could be a guy's first name, too. I guess we'll find out shortly."There is a sign above the door of the smaller building that reads "Rectory" and when you ring the door bell a woman of about 40 answers it. "Yes, can I help you?" she asks.

Tipping an imaginary hat at the lady, Peng smiles and says in a pleasant tone, "Howdy do. My friend here . . ."
Stepping aside, he waves Gil forward and finishes, ". . . would like to have a few words with the Steward."

Gil leads you through this busy area, around the edge of the market and toward a quieter street leading further from the downtown area. The street you are on has, what appear to be, expensive townhouses lining it. A small park filled with trees and flowers and surrounded by an iron picket fence marks where streets cross in this residential area. On the far side of the park, and across the street there an imposing structure...some sort of church by the look of it. Gil stops, looks at the church from across the street and checks his padd for the address. "Hum, it seems this church is where I'm supposed to deliver the package." he says with a bit of a frown, "Somebody called Steward Jones at this address." Takheal elects to enter the park with Tokheletoi as to be a little less conspicuous as they wait for the others to finish their business. He walks with her as they explore the park.

Please, come in. John is in his study working on his 6 day sermon, but I'm sure he would be happy to speak with you and your friend."
"Who do I say is calling, please?" she asks, while showing you both to a room with several over stuffed chairs, a couch, tables and a book self filled with real, old fashioned, books standing against one wall. The large window across from the door streams in through sheer curtains throwing patterns on the large throw rug in the center of the floor. Once she has you settled, she leaves you, closing the door behind her. A few minutes later a tall thin man wearing a cream colored jacket with a high square cut collar over black shirt and pants opens the door and steps inside. "I am Steward Jones." says the man in a much deeper voice than you expected, "How can I help you? OOC: raikenclw, please, continue to take the lead...you can certainly speak for Gil under these circumstances.

[OOC: Peng - as well as I, his player - has ZERO clue as to the actual nature of the deal Gil's working. All he knows is that Gil has a fat envelope that he's supposed to exchange for a sum in credits. And he's Lazy, to boot . . . But as it seems I'm the only active player at the moment . . .]
When Gil hesitates to speak, Peng half-heartedly mutters: "Uh . . . well . . . Gil here has a small package . . ."
Gil starts visibly and then fumbles the fat envelope out of his inner pocket. He holds this out in one hand, but when the man reaches for it, Gil pulls it back just out of reach while extending his other hand in an open, palms-up posture. The fingers of the extended hand then wiggle a bit.
With a faint blush, Peng adds: "But we were told we'd be paid some hard coin for its delivery to you."

Going over to the bookshelves he moves a book and section of them come out revealing a wall safe. He places his palm on a pad while looking directly at a sensor on the front and then opens the safe. Taking out a package he closes the safe and moves the "books" back into position. Holding it out to Gil he exchanges package for envelope. Jones says, "Feel free to count it while I check that you have actually delivered what you were supposed to deliver."Jones opens the envelope and removes a memory stick which he inserts into a port on the computer on his desk. A few clicks and a scan and he says, "Yes, this is correct."Peng, from his chair, is able to see what is on the computer screen. It just looks like a long, long, list of names, dates, addresses, and other information. Nothing that looks either interesting or worth the wad of cash that Gil is counting out. Gilroy nods, replaces the money in the envelope and places the envelope in his inner coat pocket. "I'm satisfied." says Jones seeing Gil place the envelope in his pocket adds, "So, it seems are you."
By the way, nothing you delivered to me is illegal here." Peng hears a slight extra emphasis on the word here. Transaction complete you and Gil take your leave and rejoin your companions across the street.

Shaking his head in disgust, Peng concludes: "Give me good, honest crime instead, anytime."

It could be that, or some sort of "church" stuff. The Morganite Church is banned back on Romania, and although the settlers here came here because they were Morganites, not everyone was...is...cool with that."
"There were schisms back on Romania where groups of Morganites actually killed each other over interpretations of the Book of Morgan. So there might be some of that here, too. Who knows?" Gil shrugs again, "The money is real money, though, and it will spend no matter where it come from. You want we should split it now in front of everybody or wait until we get alone?

Peng shrugs indifferently and laconically drawls, "Governments. Organized religions. Same s**t, different day, y' ask me."
In response to Gil's question about splitting the proceeds, Peng seems tad more interested but also somewhat puzzled, replying, "It was your deal. I just came along for the last bit and didn't do anythin', really. I'm fine with . . . say . . . Cr20, enough for some beer and pretzels. As to when I get it, that don't much matter to me."

Gil, Peng and Cyril cross the street toward the Park where they see the others waiting.
Peng and Cyril notice a ground vehicle parked down the street with two people in it. Peng recognizes both of the people in the car. One is the woman who smiled at him and the other is the man she met at the Starport.

After that, to be honest, I'd be okay with finding a diner from some local food and having a few drinks before calling it a day, but as I said, I'm open to suggestions for sightseeing or anything else you folks have in mind."OOC: Barclay's is a banking system that has branches all over this area of space. You don't know if there are branches of this bank further up the main. In fact, you have no idea what banks might be further up the main. You'll need to consider how to deal with money going forward into unknown space. It might take some research to see what banks and financial institutions have branches...or agreements with other institutions...as you travel toward Mantan.

Cyril hopes he's made clear that he intends to talk. His best guess is that they're police. If they listen, he will begin with "My friends and I have just arrived on planet. We intend to commit some sins later this evening, but we haven't been able to find a church that sells indulgences. Can you help us?"

We intend to commit some sins later this evening, but we haven't been able to find a church that sells indulgences. Can you help us?" The pair, a man and a woman, in the car watch Cyril as he walks toward them. They look somewhat tense, but not hostile. The woman laughs and says in a slightly accented voice, "No, you won't find a kirk that will sell you an indulgence on Shira Lea. They are much, much too moral for that."
"I suggest you and your friends wait to commit your sins until you get back to the Starport." she adds in a lilting voice, "Over there they'll just roll you back to your ship and pat your head. Here? You might end up in hokey pokey and miss your ship out of here."
"Now, if you don't mind would you folks go away from here before you end up getting into trouble you don't need."
The man just glowers and says, "Yeah, disappear! Go back to your hotel, better yet, your ship, even better, pull up stakes and lift off planet."Cyril recognizes her accent as coming from Patagonia, very unlikely to be from here as he hasn't heard anyone else speak with this accent here.

Cyril rejoins the group. He's a little worried that they might be monitored by "technical means," so he suggests that it's time they head for the bank. After getting what he hopes is enough distance from the couple in the car, he shares what he's learned.
The woman sounds like she's from Patagonia, so they're probably not local police, but it looks like they've got the church staked out.
I think they bought my "trying to become a drunken sailor" story, but if they talk to anyone from inside the church they'll know I lied.
They both warned me off. She was smiling. He wasn't.
So, who are they? Spies? Criminals? They weren't intense enough to be deacon proctors like we had back home.

When Cyril's interaction with the pair of strangers fails to spark any violence, Peng drifts back toward the group and then follows along as the group moves toward the bank.
In response to Cyril's information and speculation, Peng puts in, "I'd say criminals. Specifically, competitors of whoever it is that the good father is supplying with information."
