Hirelings
These are average people who hire on for a wage for a fairly specific length of time. These are zero level and occasionally first level. You will generally advertise for these people or draw them from friends and family. As your reputation grows they will seek your employ out or ignore you depending on what that reputation is.
Torch bearers and porters and such, plus men-at-arms.
Standard Wages XXXX per day depending on the circumstances. (Discussed up front and subject to renegotiation if risks turn out to be other than what was discussed - morale issue)
Specialists - Cleric, Magic-Users, Fighting men and the like. First level and up depending on your level and a number of other factors - very related to your Charisma. May overlap with the categories (Henchman, Retainers and Followers) They gain XP.
Standard Wages are XX per day plus 20% to 50% of a full Share depending on the Circumstances. (Discussed up front and subject to renegotiation if risks turn out to be other than what was discussed - morale issue)
Henchman
These are people who are personally attracted to you and your Charisma and reputation play a large part in it.
Standard Wages are XX per day plus 50% of a full Share depending on the Circumstances. (Treatment in all ways affect loyalty )
Retainers
Same as Henchman except increase to XX per day plus 75% of a full Share and they have a bonus to loyalty based on their long association with you and continuing good treatment. These are highly trusted individuals.
Followers
These are highly devoted and highly trusted individuals and although payment is not high on their list (They are usually granted a full Share), that is because you are generous in your treatment of them and consideration for their well being. They are what everyone hopes that their Retainers will become. They are yours heart and soul.
Note:
All gain XP and that is calculated differently than it is for PCs. Even long term Hirelings might eventually level up.
