Important information: Paladin raikenclw mao Hexenritter Verlag ampleframework hengest Bear in mind that everything in the PC Classes thread and the PC Race/Species thread are play test items and the details are always subject to change.
Please note for all character classes, that killing an opponent from behind during battle is a Neutral Act and killing an opponent from behind in a non-battle situation is an EVIL Act. Knocking an opponent out from behind is a Neutral Act.
Paladin Exception: Attacking or Killing an opponent from behind is always an EVIL act for a Paladin. Knocking an opponent out from behind is only Lawful if in defense of an innocent non-combatant, otherwise it is EVIL.

If we pick a race that has unusual stats (like the ogre rolling 2d6 for some stats), do we select one of the stat blocks and then have the stats in question (like wisdom or intelligence, i think it was) rerolled with the appropriate dice to reflect the racial norms?
Or just select a stat block that is already within the accepted range for the race we want?
Wanted to make sure I know how everything works before picking!

Hi Paladin, just select a stat block, apply any and all adjustments to raise or lower the stat based on the race. Then reduce any stats, if needed to the racial maximum. The only caveat is that you should pick a stat block, that after the adjustments are applied all racial minimums are met. If that is not clear, just pick a stat block and ask for help.

You could say that instead of memorizing a first L spell you can memorize 4-6 cantrips, that would be fine by me.

I don't have UA but I can remember a few, not sure if this list is entirelly from that Bee> summons an angry Bee that you don't control Hesitate> save or lose next action(really not sure about this one) Moan> ghostly sound 2d image Zap> does 1 point of damage(common fan made one) Sleepy> makes target tired and sleepy, good w sleep spell sneeze> possibly disrupts spell cast if no save is made That's about the best I can remember, I remember a lot more of the modern ones if you are interested

The 5e cantrips are just plain dumb. They do like a d8 damage(Gygax is rolling over in his grave) The 3.5/Pathfinder versions were very powerful too. Keep in mind that to save vrs a cantrip you need a 13,14 and the ones that you roll to hit are about the same , also you can cast them an unlimited number of times. Light, read magic and detect magic were all cantrips. I always liked the idea that the cantrip version of detect magic is just a yes or no flash and the first level version was more in depth in figuring out a source of magic. Some of my fav as both a player and DM Mage hand> 5lb of teleknisys Flare> save or suffer -1 to hit Resistance> +1 to your saves for about a turn. Acid orb> a ranged touch attack that D3 damage ,that is about the highest damage.
These are cleric ones that I let mages have Guidence> gain a plus one to any d20 roll you have to roll ,once , during the next 10 rounds or so Virtue> ok this is my fav cantrip for low level play, you gain 1 temparary hit point that lasts about 10 rounds or until you take damage.
I really don't care if you want to use the UA ones, if memory serves me, I can make a lot of mischive with them . I am certainly not suggesting that I have unlimited use. I also think that they should not do any damage, especially comparing them to 0e Magic Missle. As I said above I also don't care if I have to just memorize 4-6 of them instead of your one first level spell. Another idea that I had was that you permanently give up your first level spell for the same number, both ideas are good trade offs. Thank you for at least considering this. It's not a deal breaker, either way I am going to play a mage.

Hey PD!
It looks like Mao is going to be a mage rather than a fighter, so I'm back to playing my same set of characters as in the previous iteration, correct? Sora [the "Devil"] and Planchet [the large, laconic Human]?
NOTE: I think it would be neat if we had a hobbit dogrobber in the party as an NPC, though.
