Hi to everyone, longtime reader delurking and joining. My friends and I started playing D&D during the summer of 1974. We saw the game in our local FLAGS and thought we would check it out. We mostly played Risk and other board games and had watched a sand table wargame once, so this was a departure from our usual thing. We struggled for a while to figure out how it worked, but once we abandoned Chainmail for combat and went with the "alternative system" things went a lot smoother AND once we got the Blackmoor Supplement with Temple of the Frog things became much more clear. So then we were off and running and since TotF showed us the way we never got into modules. That was really the only thing that the 3LBBs was missing and had Temple of the Frog been included in the 3LBBs, then it would have made getting started easy. Well the "alternative system" should have been presented as the primary means of combat. So that summer I was 21 and my friends and I gamed a lot for about 3 years in our non-work hours. But that dropped off as our dating became more serious and once we started getting married the group gradually fizzled out and our group activities switched to things our wives wanted to do. Well except for deer hunting season. Now that we are all retired, we started getting back into D&D again mostly inspired by reading the Dreamers blog which I found 4 years ago. Welcome to The Ruins Tallyman , great to have you here. Invite your friends to join too! Thank you, I have and a few more should eventually show up here.

What he said, I will add that he does 80%+ of the reffing and I do about 10%, I will let the other guy who is close to 10% speak for himself. The others have tried reffing, but did not really get into it. I am the least of the three refs, doing about 8% of the total over the years. These days Tallyman does almost all the games as the ref. We just give him a break now and then to catch his breath. Not sure yet if the other guys will sign up or not. We are trying to talk them all into it. Maybe least in time served, but your reffing does not take a back seat to any of the rest of us.

Welcome to all the new members, since I last checked in. Best place for old school D&D on the Internet. As has been said, "This is the Home of Old School Gaming" and the "Home of Old School D&D".

Welcome to a ton of new members since I last logged in, welcome to all of you. Wow 4,500 D&D games! There are only a few of us left and I don't know if we will reach 5,000 games or not. We are all in our mid eighties and those of us who remain are really feeling it.

Old time OD&D player and referee. Been playing since the early days and running my campaign. Some of us are getting long in the tooth and short on hair these days. Discovered D&D in the late months of 1974 and although I have briefly tried other versions of D&D and some other games, I have always come back to the original for my got to. Weirdest thing I think of is once for about three years or so we ran an all Golden Dragon party (they are Lawful for those that don't know). They worked their way up to where they could take on the Red Dragons in the area and clean them out. Then they each had their own large hoard and retired.

Welcome to The Ruins Survivor Girl and The Myth The Mystery! Come on in and make yourself at home. This board does allow lurkers, but we do love our posters too. An all party of Golden Dragons, that sounds like a blast.

So THIS is where the intro thread is.
Call me Ix. I came over from odd74 where I am a mostly lurker. I also am tinkering with a ruleset for my first DMed campaign when I actually get one together.

Welcome, ix great to have you here. What is your gaming background if you don't mind sharing it. If you are new to refereeing (DMing) then this a good place for you. If you have questions. Just start a thread right below this one and ask away. Based on your questions we can point you to some resources too. (also see you Messages above)
