Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm a long-time gamer in my 40s. Got started with AD&D in the early 80s. Played a lot in highschool then on-and-off in my 20s and 30s. For the past couple years I've been playing twice a week with my local friend group here in Ohio, which is the most consistent and frequent game group I've ever had. It takes a lot of free time obviously, but definitely the most fun I've had with RPGs. Cheers.

Mostly we play some variant of D&D. Currently I'm running my homebrew system based on AD&D 1E. But I've run a lot of B/X (using Old School Essentials), DCC, and a whole slew of other games. We played Warlock! last night which is kinda cool.

My next project is to delve back further into OD&D and Holmes... these were things from before my time. When I was a kid we didn't even know such stuff existed. I just knew of the B/X, Mentzer, and AD&D books which were available at Waldenbooks, and was too young to go to conventions, etc.
I'm going to print up the little books and supplements and read them casually over the next year. I've played some retroclones like Swords & Wizardry, Whitebox FMAG, and BLUEHOLME, all of which I enjoyed immensely. I'd love to come up with my own homebrew campaign using the original rules.

We would love to hear about Warlock! and your experiences with it.

We are very much that here from those like myself that started with OD&D to those who are discovering it for the first time. You may want to check out my blog linked in my signature, I have posted about OD&D there along with other stuff. If anything there intrigues or you have questions about blog posts or things here or anything else, feel free to start discussion threads with your questions or comments.

Thanks for the welcome bud. I too am in Columbus. PM me or something. I'm aware of the older game called Warlock, but the thing we played last night is a newer RPG (published last year). It's sort of an OSR emulator of 1st edition Warhammer Fantasy RP. firerubydesigns.co.uk/series/warlock/warlock

We played Warlock! last night which is kinda cool. My experiance didn't blossom until 1 e came out, I had a skill list that favored fighters, which rewarded me w many fighter pcs, just what I wanted

Given the size of this Introductions thread, I will make the easy guess that it is customary to introduce oneself. I am an OD&D player and ref from early on in '74. Didn't really game with anyone famous, but was around some. I am also am into doing mash-ups to suit the mood. Used to play a lot, but not really at all the last 20-25 years. A chance conversation led to me hearing about this place and here I am. I did not know that there were places like this. It is overwhelming to look at, considering that I was told there are places much larger than this, I marvel that people can find anything. So I am going to poke around and see what there is to see. Its really interesting to hear how peeps find this place, we are a very small place. You might want to start at the Center Stage subforum, it has a best of here pretty well covered

Welcome ratikranger, I see you claim to be born in 1931, we have several really old members, I am curious as to how many of them are as mature as they claim to be. I am always interested in how people became D&D players and also how you discovered The Ruins. But those of you of an older vintage , I am really interested in your stories.

Yes Welcome!. Its great to see so many new peeps. I am interested in where you have heard about us? multiarms @hakdov I bought a module called "Tomb of the Sea Kings" which I enjoyed (particularly the art). It led me to research the Planet Eris House Rules, for which it was written. I learned that Planet Eris was based on OD&D which was interesting to me. When I searched around for more info on Planet Eris, there were several threads here.

I have been on a few D&D-related forums for years, but I am usually not all that active. I ran into a reference to this one elsewhere, came by to read a few posts and then decided to move in. :-D Let's slice me into the 45-55 category, age-wise? The internet being what it is, I tend to use 1931 whenever someone will let me.

Of course you would be expected to field some questions about your youth.

We like lurkers too, but if you post now and then it lets us know you are still here and that you found something interesting. That is always great encouragement for the active posters. Also, thank you for adding an avatar, that is always helpful IMO.
