Hello, hello! I never got around to registering back when you started the board, but was reminded again by a recent episode of the Save or Die podcast. Don't know how active I'll be here, but no doubt I'll pop in and share my thoughts now and then. Thanks for having me! Welcome! Koren glad to have you aboard!

Obligatory gaming bio-dump? Sure, why not?
I'm one of the older guys on the block - started with Moldvay Basic which I got as a Christmas gift in Dec 85. Played that a couple of years through middle school, then moved on to 1E through high school. Bought into 2E when it was released and played that through my college years, as well as a bit of Shadowrun 2E around the same time. After finishing school I fell out of gaming, more due to lack of opportunity than desire, but played some of the D&D computer games.
I was putzing around with Neverwinter Nights when my girls were young and they began to show some interest. I took that opportunity to introduce them to the real thing, but when I started to look into the current edition of D&D (3.5) I was astounded at what the game had grown into - more than a couple pre-teen girls needed to try and understand, for sure. I found you could buy PDFs of Mentzer D&D online at that time and picked those up, rekindling my love of the game. Over time, I was sucked in to the amazingly prolific online world of the OSR and my home games have morphed through variations of true TSR Basic, Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry and Basic Fantasy RPG with bits and bobs of a lot of other things mixing in.
It's now... about 7 years on? and my youngest is still playing (she's 15 now). The group has changed over time but it includes some of her friends and mine, younger and older. We're playing 5E now, which I'm learning, liking and can see staying with for the foreseeable future. I also play with a group of older friends in a 3e Lite homebrew system (fine for playing, wouldn't run it though) and also run irregular session of BFRPG for a group of their pre-teen kids. Great fun to see them take to the game!
As with most gamer types I also have my projects, tinkering at one or the other as my interest ebbs and flows. A homebrew campaign world called Caldera (a circular flat-world where the continents are like the islands in a volcanic caldera) built on a B/X chassis, a conversion and expansion of Thunder Rift for 5E, and a Cyberpunk/Shadowrun OSR game using BFRPG as the basis.
That's my story folks - looking forward to seeing what you all have to share as well!

Hi. I've been inspired to ply my hand at world-buidling and since I mainly play EPT, I thought this is the place. I'm not a very high-profile gamer and some (von) will know me from YDIS. I promise to compartmentalize my d&d postings i.e i'm not here to cause trouble. That's really all in terms of a story. I look forward to projecting my brain-vomit onto each and everyone here.

I am one of the old guys on here (79) and I play now and then with some of my grandkids. I picked the frumious Bandersnatch, because it is ferocious and both extraordinarily quick and fast as I once was back in my younger days. I will likely mainly be a lurker since I am mainly here to read about what you-all are doing.

Hi to all, I am The Archivist - The Keeper of The Files from The Drive and I Post Their Old School Goodness!(with permission). I am also known as Bronco Lane. When the opportunity was there, I was the only one who spoke up and claimed the contents of The Drive. I also post a few of my own thoughts and ideas from time to time. This quote was from The Originator of The Drive: and Diago a member at ENWorld and other places is from Stone Mountain, GA, and his following quote is an inspiration: I hope you enjoy the posts I make on here, nothing would honor The Originator more than for someone to find something worth using in their own game.

Hi everybody Here's a little about me. I got in RPGs back in the early '80 and been playing off and on now for years. I started with AD&D and found other games like Villains and Vigilantes, Tunnels and Trolls (mostly the solos, James Bond 007, etc. In the 90s I played 2nd edition AD&D, GURPS, Call of Cthulhu and 3rd edition D&D for a little. Recently I went all the way back to the beginning, original Dungeons and Dragons for my new campaign, the Niemora Chronicles. I wanted a set of rules that where flexable and can be reworked to fit the game world. I hope to post some of my rule additions and see what you think.

Welcome: robjn, randyb, bestialwarlust, Crimhthan The Great, kesher, Kjeran, Koren, elftronica, Bandersnatch, The Archivist, grodog, and rob008! I hope I didn't miss anybody sense my last welcome post! I clearly had some catching up to do. I have been enjoying many of your posts and I look forward to more from all! I have been finding myself saying to my players, more and more, Jon Peterson's phrase when they look at me and ask me if they can do something, "D&D is a game where characters can attempt anything." And I usually put a bit of quizzical emphasis on "attempt!" Welcome to the boards. I look forward to whatever you are going to attempt!

Hey Kids ~
I'm 47 (born in 68). Dad introduced me to fantasy and sci-fi before the age of 5. I had heard about D&D, but didn't know anyone who played until middle school. I got Moldvay Basic (B/X) when it came out in 1981, but sadly never bought the expert set. I "graduated" to AD&D in a few months. I played off and on until about 1990, at which time I got married, had kids, and had real life take over full force.
I started playing again in about 2010. My circle of friends had changed to include a guy who continues to be very active in gaming (Bryan Skowera). I played in a Pathfinder game he was the DM of, but the game sure had changed. I found Dragonsfoot.org and other websites and played catch-up. I Toyed around with and ran a small campaign with a B/X 1e hybrid of sorts, and went through a lot of systems to see what i wanted to use for house rules. (I remember waiting for each issue of Dragon magazine to see the new house rule ideas - i still use the incremental saves/to hit introduced by LL in Dragon #80). I also got to play for a year in Joe The Attorney's LotFP Game for about a year (an interesting take on B/X).
Real Life took me away from gaming from mid 2012 till about a month ago. Where I had wanted fewer rules in 2012, i found myself wanting dead simple in 2015. I'm grateful that the OSR had made the older versions available more or less intact. I figured i'd got a copy of Labyrinth Lord and run a straight B/X campaign (still my favorite version), but perusing Dragonsfoot I decided to check out Swords and Wizardry and Delving Deeper in order to just have some OD&D materiel available (I have never laid eyes on the real thing).
Wow. ~ I'm not saying i'm abandoning B/X for strict OD&D, but darned if OD&D isn't a lot like what I want the game to be.

Hey guys, just found this forum the other day. I'm Dizzy/Andrew. I'm a 26 year old in Houston. You may have seen me around the ODD74, or OSRGAMING forums. I'm also on dragonsfoot and G+ but I mostly lurk there. My gaming career started in high school when I picked up 3.5 on a whim when spring break started my junior year, and my friends ended up playing it every day of spring break. Once I went to Baylor for school I found a great local gamestore that sold some old-school stuff. I ended up picking up the 1e PHB & DMG on a whim as they were about 3$ each (and in awful condition). I found the roll for initiative podcast soon after, and fell in love with 1e. After running 1e for about a year, I started incorporating 2e into it as well. Eventually I was playing regularly with another group online and was introduced to B/X. I enjoyed B/X, but still wasn't too into, and had absolutely no interest in OD&D at that time. I think my 3.5 roots were still showing. It took a few years, but B/X grew to be my second favorite edition, with OD&D being my true love. It took me far too long to start running OD&D regularly, and am not sure I could ever go back to running anything farther ahead than B/X now. The next campaign I start (hopefully in a few weeks) I'm going to be attempting to run with chainmail combat to see how I like it. I've never played using chainmail, but love using the outdoor survival map!
^this was all horribly written sorry. I'm pretty out of it!

Hi, I am a quite old gamer (since early 80's). And I almost never played D&D in any guise. I played Runequest, Dragonquest, Flashing Blades, Dragon Warriors, MSPE, CoC, Nightprowler, lately Savage Worlds, and lots of others (even Fantasy Wargaming if you can believe it) and also lots of personal rules systems (didn't we all?). A few years ago, I discovered the OSR and what attracted me mostly to it was the attitude (roleplaying as opposed to collaborative story writing; I think that roleplaying and storytelling are very different games like soccer and football). So, since then, I have been reading a lot on the net, mostly picking ideas for non-D&D games, but I have even begun sometimes to use some OSR rulesets (LoTFP and Delving Deeper mostly). I tend to make stuff for my games (cardboard figures, illustrations, maps, charsheets, tokens,...) and I make it available on my blog (link in the sig). I generally play with peoples around the table but I use a VTT (virtual tabletop program) to display the map and the situation as I find it easier to setup, save and use. I am also a completely amateur illustrator (you'll find some stuff on my blog and here)

Thanks Perilous Dreamer for the welcome, and for setting up these fine boards. I've enjoyed the discussions so far!
Also welcome Bhoritz! Glad you found your way here. I'm definitely interested in hearing some of your viewpoints as your previous game experience varies drastically from mine!

Welcome, bhoritz and dizzysaxophone! dizzysaxophone, like you I come from the later generation—technically I should have started playing with 2e, but didn't really get exposed to D&D until 3e. My interest only began after stumbling upon the 1e books at a library sale, and I fell in love with it immediately. Now I have sets of every edition prior to 2e, plus a random assortment of 2e stuff. bhoritz, your blog has some great stuff on it. I just read your post on mocking up three-dimensional hex map globes, very cool! By the way, if you're talking about the Martin Hackett Fantasy Wargaming book, then yes, I can certainly believe that you've played it (because I've played it too!).
