OOC: Since per the DM it is morning, let us all eat and care for the livestock and decide who stays up top to guard the holding and who is going down below.Gwindeth over breakfast says, "We have decided that Grimbane and Grimdeath will stay up top while Togork and I will go with the party into the cellar." Looking around she says, " How about the rest of you, who goes, who stays?" Yoren speaks, "Loren and Toren will stay up top to guard the lodge and the livestock, while Zoren and I will go into the cellars to find out what is down there."

Trask ( mormonyoyoman)is below and shows you the crack in the wall & the apparent gap behind the wall. What will you guys & gals do?

Gwendeth suggests that, "Zoren and Yoren take the lead as they can move more quietly and quickly and with the size differences can quickly retreat between myself and Togork if need be. Also I imagine that Sora would rather be behind us or he could pair with me and Togork pair with his companion. Or does Trask want to lead the way? Let's decide quickly on what we will do depending on what we find so that quick decisons can be made."

OOC: Yoren and Zoren are willing to take the lead or share it with Trask. If they take the lead, they will try to move silently and hide in shadows and scout ahead.

You head down into the darkened cellar. Do you light a torch to better see details you'd miss using your Darkvision? Either way Trask points towards the far wall once you all reach the bottem of the stairs and says, "There is a potential hidden room & door in the far wall but it was too late to search for a way to open it last night" You also see a locked door besides the walled off stairs in the south wall. All you see in the cellar is dust (with your tracks from last night - not Toren or Zoren) and rodent droppings.

Then we should be off and running.

Sora and Josiah obviously are not overjoyed about splitting up, but accede to the tactical situation and do so. [OOC: My apologies! I did not realize that two new threads had already been opened. I had gotten lazy and instead of checking the actual game I was just checking the "Participated" tab. ]

"Was a key to this door located?"Sora shakes his head and replies, "Not that I'm aware." Gesturing at his [Str 18] companion, he adds, "Josiah here usually acts as a key, when needed." Josiah grunts and draws his two-handed sword. Hefting it in a over-the-shoulder grip that clearly implies he means to smash the door's lockplate with the weapon's pommel, Josiah steps toward the portal in question. NOTE: Josiah is moving slowly (as he usually does when not in combat), so anyone who might object to his obvious intention to try battering in the door can speak up and/or move to block him. Even the newest party members get the impression that Josiah is an easy-going sort, so he is unlikely to object to being stopped in this situation.

Ref's Voice: I'll assume you checked the key ring & find that one of the keys opens the locked door in the cellar. Here is what you find:
The cooking utensils, medium size iron pot & Dwarf Made rotisserie; plus a few spilled burlap bags of beans & flour - clearly the rodents have been eating from these bags. There are casks of various sizes - some marked with: Khormish Red, Thandish Port & Clan Orkbiter Ale from the Tol-Dhornen Dwarf Hold. There is also jars with picked vegetables & fruit preserves. You also find the missing tools that should've located above in both the stables & lodge above.
The Perilous Dreamer raikenclw & Mighty Darci ... just an update.

[Have the bags spilled because the rodents chewed holes in them? Or because they were opened and tipped over?]

[Have the bags spilled because the rodents chewed holes in them? Or because they were opened and tipped over?] Rats, you see lil foot prints in the flour & droppings on the floor. I forgot to add that bit. It is a walk in pantry/storage room with shelves along the walls & places for tools & stable trappings to rest.

OCC: Sorry I was absent, TPD's characters would not know about the keys. I will jump to the DMs next post from here.

Gwindeth speaks, "Great to know where this stuff is, the flour is useless now for food, but the beans can be salvaged. We can toss them in the air and let the wind blow all the fine stuff away, wash them several times and boil them and they will be fine. We may have trouble finding any meat hereabouts that is safe to eat." She continues, "Let's re-lock this for now and continue on. Sora and Josiah go along with the plan, although Sora does think:
[Internal Thought]We could sift the spilled grain and then boil it into mush to make it safe. Unappetizing and only to be done to avoid starvation, but safe.[/Internal Thought]

Image lists positions of PCs. Yoren notices something odd about the torch holder nearest to the crack in the far wall. He carefully checks to see if it is trapped & pulls it - nothing happens initially, until he pushes it a bit. He then pushes it into the wall which takes a bit of effort & the wall near the crack opens up revealing a shadow cloaked room. Torch light reveals a small room with a small shrine altar to Mulvigg at the far end, a desk with a book & unlit candle upon it to the south of the door. There is also a small two shelf book case with a prayer book to Mulvigg, a Mulvigg Bible & a locked small chest on the bottom shelf. The Chest has a Symbol of Mulvigg emblazoned on the top of the chest. Their is an ink well & two feather pens also on the desk. This is all you can see from the doorway. Check image below for Hidden room details.

Sora comes over to look . . .
[OOC: Other than recognizing the items to be related to Mulvigg, does Sora discover anything else? My image of him is that he knows just enough about his religion to lead common prayers for other lay members. We left the actual Mulvigg Human Cleric upstairs . . .]

Sora pages through the small book & it seems to be a new journal, with pages 1-13 covering the journey to the Vale by Brother Tiberous of the Order of Beoshar of Falcarn - Sora knows Brother Tiberous who had gone missing & wasn't heard of since he left on his mission to the vale which is part of Sora's mission to find out what happened to the senior member of his order. Pages 14 & 15 are the last written in the journal and holds info that seems to be of use.

Sora reads the journal entry out to the rest of the party, commenting at the end: "These 'beast-men' seem to be of at least two varieties, those which can not stand the touch of direct sunlight and those which can. Plus, there is apparently a supply of undead to be encountered, as well as perhaps a basilisk or similiar foe . . ."
He looks around at the group's currently-foe-free situation and concludes with, "I have to wonder where they went. Have we caught them all napping, mayhap?"

Trask speaks up, " Karba had mentioned a group of Goat-like Beast-men who do not seem bothered by the sun but she saw them across the river where they attacked the caravan she was travelling with as guard. I wonder if they are from the ruins or now in league with the Pig-like Beast-men"? (Until Chet can return I am NPCing his PCs when needed).

Sora exchanges a look with Josiah, who shakes his head mutely. Looking back at Trask, he asks, "I misremember* this tale, I'm afraid. Are you saying that the attack upon this caravan was delivered from across a river? Are we facing foes with catapults or trebuchets?"
*[OOC: I - the player - honestly don't remember this tale. This is unusual, as I'm normally pretty good at recalling pbp game details long after reading the relevant post. But I'm drawing a complete blank this time, I'm afraid.]

Knowing how things went with Karba & Sora when they met it is understandable she did not share info with Sora & Josiah. She likely shared it with Trask in a period of brief time alone - I am trying to facilitate getting this PbP moving beyond the search of the Lodge. Trask: "Karba & discussed it on the trail following those fell beasties, we were near the back of the group while you & Josiah were on horse at the head. We were busy searching the lodge, setting up the watches - frankly I wasn't sure what you knew being we just met. Now that you have brought up the Beast-Men & wondered if there was two kinds I was reminded of my conversation with the Warhammer wielding lass & figured I'd share it as it might be needed. From what she said, they are man-like with goat-heads & cloven hooves - like some chaos warped satyr just taller. They massacred the rest of the caravan but she escaped them but killed a few, then found a hidden boat on the shore to further escape them. "

Sora nods at this tale, then looks around at the rest of the group: "Right. Important safety information: Be alert for tall goat-headed monsters, as we explore further."
[OOC: I was soooo tempted to misquote Peter Venkman more closely, but that just isn't how Sora tends to speak . . .]

Trask: "There is that small metal chest on the bottom shelf of the l'l bookcase. Maybe we should check that out before we quit the cellar. It seems to be much of nuthin here we need to discover; maybe we should think about getting to that blighted hole yonder - since it is why we are here in the first place. We can always secure this lodge & use it as a place to rest after dark since the blessings of Mulvigg seem to grant us respite within its walls. What say you all?"

Sora looks at Josiah, who in turn shrugs, then tentatively pokes the aforesaid "small metal chest" with his massive sword. If nothing dire happens immediately, Josiah exerts enough force to make the chest move. If nothing dire still fails to occur, he will reach down and pick up the chest, moving it out into the middle of the room where it can be more closely examined.
