I don't know if it's an officially recognised phrase; I meant to refer to the huge ecology of web crawlers, spiders, bots, robots, trawlers, scripts, programs, processes, and so on that are constantly visiting every reachable place on the internet, for legitimate or nefarious purposes. There are many more robots using the internet than there are people; 212 billion connected devices by 2020 is what some marketeers are predicting. Once upon a time there was an internet of content. Then there was an internet of people. Now there is an internet of things. Yep. Same with my blog and my fiancee's, things from Russia. They all appeared at once one month and are now persistent on both of our blogs, which for content are quite different. Bots, scams, as WoE said so eloquently--things. I pay very little attention these days to internet stats and such.

I pay very little attention these days to internet stats and such. I know they don't really mean anything, but it is fun to imagine what they could mean if they were real. It is also fun to speculate on just what percentage are real. It also does serve another purpose. When a new country pops up I go read about it and its culture and other stuff. Seven countries added up to 75, so I have some reading to do.

No readers from Antarctica? Not yet, but with all those scientists down there, there should be some rpg players among them.

This list is up to 85 countries/governmental units and I wish there were some way to tell which ones are readers and which ones are only bots. I found it quite interesting that I am getting a lot of hits from the United Arab Emirates, like between 10-20 per day for the last few days.

On a little side note here are the top ten countries that are viewing my blog all time. Wish I could get that kind of data for the forum. United States United Kingdom Germany Russia France Canada Australia Spain Ukraine Latvia I find it amazing that Russia comes in ahead of Canada and that Canada is not second or third. I am even more amazed that the Ukraine and Latvia are on the top ten list all time. Now compare this to the top ten list for the past month. Hmm as of July 2016 Russia has leapfrogged over Germany & the UK.
United States Russia Ukraine Germany France United Kingdom Canada Ireland Italy Australia Russia and Ukraine are second and third over the last month. In both cases I am surprised that the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia are not two through four in one order or another. And then the list for the last week is even more odd. United States Russia Brazil France Argentina Germany Peru Canada Luxembourg Australia The bold print shows the edits.

As some of you know I have a blog The Ruins of Murkhill - (OD&D). I have started using (as of about 10PM on10/3/16) a new stat/analytics tool that filters out all of the bots and spiders and my own stuff and only records real people visiting the blog, at least that is what it claims and it has produced some interesting information (well interesting to me). So far in a almost exactly a month I have had 282 unique visitors from these countries in the order of frequency. Not surprising the USA is the lions share of visits and a total of 26 countries. United States Canada Germany United Kingdom Singapore Australia France Brazil Kuwait Belgium Spain Sweden Italy Ireland Hungary Poland India Finland Greece Portugal Philippines Indonesia Korea, Republic of Russian Federation New Zealand Japan
I can also see the breakdown overall and for each country, as to where the traffic is coming from. Here is the overall breakdown of how traffic gets to the blog. 34% Direct Traffic 32% Referring Websites 14% Social Networks 19% Search Engine Referrals
Also currently the 21.6% of the visits last more than one hour.
Edit: most recent update is 11/4/16 All future updates will be in a new post.

I had taken a break for a couple of years, in that time my blog saw more activity than when I was posting. The #1 country was Russia for some reason, I still can't figure that out. Now that I am posting again, Russia has dropped off.

I betcha that one could hide lots of cloak and dagger stuff in a gaming blog. Now that I think about it, I probably attract lots of bots just because of the subject matter. Great, as if I wasn't paranoid enough.

I hardly fit the bill Darci, as I've only got 284 posts, but I started in 2008 and represent a very small niche, even in the gaming community. This month I saw a total of 5,972 page views by what my counter believes are real people. But, of that number 89.8% only clicked through, spending less than 5 seconds, so only 609.2 were views that the user actually read the content. Including bots and people who've made it impossible to trace them, I registered 18,526.

Yeah, blogger tells me I have had 4,162 page views in the last month, but the new stat counter says that real page views are much less at only 564, but it gives me a lot more info than blogger does. More interesting is that of the 243 visitors that it noted so far since 10/3/16 (today is 10/30/16) 51 of those people have made multiple visits this during that 27 days which is 22.3%. The totals and the return visits are a lot less than I thought they were, but now I know and I have a real goal now to work towards.
