I'm going to pose this question to you all out there as I don't have the time to search every post on this website to see if someone had already thought/talked about this already. Basically I'm inviting any tips/links/ideas for running a Star Wars game using OD&D rules, just swapping weapons/armour/monsters for setting specific material. The basic premise is I want to keep it dead simple and really focus on the setting and not so much the rules as I am already familiar with OD&D. I thought of using West End Games Star Wars Sourcebook and maybe some of the supplementary books if they have good setting/world information. I like that it's probably the first RPG sourcebook for Star Wars ever created. Does anyone know of any other sourcebooks for Star Wars? I remember seeing a coffee table sized star wars book when I was a kid and it had all sorts of Aliens and tech, and space ships, and it talked about all of them in detail, but it it wasn't an RPG sourcebook. Anybody ever seen that? How would you run gun rules? Laser pistols ignoring AC? How much damage would a Light Saber do vs. a Plasma Cannon? Maybe treat a plasma cannon as a catapult ala Chainmail. I can't wait to see the look on my players faces the first time a Star Destroyer drops down from the sky onto their world Just trying to get some ideas flowing here...

This sounds like fun, but I do not have any Star Wars stuff so I cannot help you with that. For part of your question though, I would probably look at some of the free space based games and port things over into OD&D mechanics. Then decide how powerful you want weapons to be and how good do you want the armor to be. At the beginning the best stuff should be out of range price wise, would be the way I would go.
Some of our Traveller people will probably weigh in with more specific advice. From watching the Traveller games, I do not think it would be too tough to port it to OD&D. In spite of skills versus levels, they look very compatible to me.

I great resource would be White Star White Box has most of what you'd need soundmana. Here is the link to the PWYW PDF from DriveThruRPG. I own it and it has a Star Knight class & Void Knight "Aliens & Creatures" section. It is based on Sword & Wizardry White Box so you'll need to convert stuff to OD&D but it shouldn't be hard at all. You need to be more specific on the bold part. As Amazon has a variety of such books available, one from 1997. Here is a link to the Wikipedia WEG Star Wars game article, it has a listing of all published WEG Star Wars supplements.

Here's not only the complete d6 game, but many sourcebooks you may find useful.

A stray thought on Light Sabres: How about the sabre is tied to the Force and Level so it might do D6 +2/Level

Rule wise, start with Warriors of the Red Planet; a cheap $15 booklet found on lulu.com and drivethrurpg.com that is built around ERB's Barsoom Saga, but its open-ended enough to run Gamma World off the bat or, as Old Man Grognard calls it: "a poor man's Star Wars." It runes on OD&D (with a few modern rule editions), with a basic list of sci-fi weapons (but not body armor... unless you, like me, like your Jedi in leather bondage gear). The airships and fliers can easily be used for starships and fighters. The "Exotic" race is made for any type of humanoid alien, and the "Unliving" race can be used for 'Doids. Although, one annoying thing you'll find is that high-tech items — gadgets — are treated as spell-like effects created by the Scientist class. Although, this is justified by the way a Scientist must maintain and recharge each device. (Although, you are better off making a list of high-tech items, and having it so a Scientist can temperately boost their normal effects akin to pumping a car engine with N 2O gas.)
Then look up the old Star Wars RPG by West End Games for information on... EVERYTHING, really. Background detail in those books are exhaustive!! Information about the setting are scattered across its large library, so you might have to pirate the files and pace yourself once you have it. (Also, total guilty-free pirating at that!)
