R.I.P. Stan LeeThank you for all the wonderful stories you blessed us with.
I know some of us are comics fans here and comics inspired some of our favorite creators within our hobby so I thought it I'd share the news here.

I loved his cameo's, some of them are even funnier than they were intended to be.

I loved his cameo's, some of them are even funnier than they were intended to be. Very true they were. What is really sad is like with Gary Gygax and other TSR luminaries who have passed on or still live, Stan Lee has been castigated as a racist, homophobe & misogynist by people who care more for their agenda than honoring the positive contributions Stan & Gary have given us. What happened to honoring the dead? There are people who I detest that I didn't celebrate their death.

Part of it was Stan didn't want Marvel writers changing his characters by changing their ethnicity or sexuality. He especially wanted Peter Parker to stay Spider-Man and stay straight, which upset perpetually offended. What is funny Stan has written & spoken openly about his opposition to racism & bigotry. He hated how Marvel was ruining his iconic characters like Spider-Man & Bobby Drake of the X-Men.

And back in the day I was never a big follower just read a few titles until I got bored with them or lost interest.

I read about eight titles at one time, but life got busy and I couldn't keep up with them and they kept messing with characters I liked so I stopped buying them about 30 years ago.
My favorites in order
1. Hulk - plagued repeatedly by bad writing as they constantly short change the fans. 2. Phoenix (Jean Grey finally becomes Phoenix and they finally get the character right[what she should have been all along] and then they killed her by bad writing before we got to enjoy her - same bad writing now being brought to the movies) 3. She-Hulk why did she have to be Hulk's cousin 4. Wolverine 5. Captain Mar-Vell - killed off in the comics with cancer
My biggest gripe is that not one of these characters has ever been allowed to develop to their full potential.

I don't know where people come up with these things. Because the current political climate is completely idiotic. Too many trend followers not enough critical thought. Perpetually offended. They are judging people through their own ideological prism. It's like the people who wanted Frank Oz to validate their fantasy that Bert & Ernie are gay, he came out and said they are not, they were meant to teach children about being best friends. Things got complicated when a former writer who replaced Frank wrote for Bert & Ernie and visualized them as gay and based their relationship on his own relationship. Sesame Street actually came out in defense of Frank Oz, stating that they are puppets and have no human sexuality. With Gary it was because he didn't think that girls would want to play D&D (he was wrong) and because he & Len published things that certain people find problematic now days, they are labelled as misogynists. Add to that because Gary and crew created Oriental Adventures he/they are racist. It is just so silly.

My Favorite Comic Characters Top 5 for the Big Three & a bonus 5 independent characters: Marvel Comics DC Comics Image Comics Independents 1. Spider-Man. 1. Batman 1. Backlash 1. Groo the Wanderer 2. Wolverine. 2. Icon (DC/Milestone) 2. Pitt 2. Faust/John Jaspers 3. Captain America. 3. Hardware (DC/Milestone) 3. Spawn 3. Bett Noir (Nightvision) 4. Night Crawler 4. Raven 4. Velocity 4. King Zombie (Deadworld) 5. Rogue 5. Robin/Damian 5. Savage Dragon 5. Zania (Walock5)

At that time (and I'm sure it's still there) Satan is everywhere--- rock music, d&d, satanic conspiracies, etc.. This is the small crowd of political extremists finding their own "satan" everywhere. And honestly that's fine free speech allows that say what you want. Just stop forcing your morales and beliefs into my personal life. I had my fill of being preached at in churches. Just relax it's a game if you don't like it don't play it no one is forcing you to.

Zania (Walock5) In the late 80's and early 90's was most of my reading the few I liked were Powerman/Iron fist, Shang Chi, Batman, Daredevil, X-men (sometimes I lost interest pretty quickly) and Dr Strange. Mostly I prefer the "street level" with batman among my favorite. Dr Strange was an anomaly and that was because I like wizards, magic, occult type stuff. Today I pretty much only read trade paper backs when I do find the odd title -- I no longer like getting individual issues too much clutter. And the titles I read would be independent also. Back when I was reading most of the time I never collected seriously --- money, getting to a store to get them and other factors were an issue.

I always liked buying the loose issues to TPBs as I loved seeing what new gems I'd find on the racks or in the "mature readers" bins. Of late I prefer manga and the few independent fantasy/sci-fi titles that are coming out. Comics, RPGs & music were my solace growing up, so i spent my money on those things. I still do, I just don't do it a lot. I'll check out music and comics from the library or via youtube (for music). In the late 80s and till the mid 90s I became a Super-hero fan, but I still bought stuff like Faust 777, Gold Digger, Deadworld, Avalon and Artesia, plus Poison Elves & Battle Chasers. bestialwarlust have you ever read Necromancer by Image? I really enjoyed it, I had hoped the creative team would continue it as they seemed to hint to wanting to do but no dice.

I couldn't make myself tap "Like." I know what you mean. Life is very short, so you have to make the most of it and I think he did. She-Hulk is hot! Curves and that green skin that looks more like the best tan ever and still has that girl next door vibe.

Guardians of the Galaxy is one they really got right. Those movies are very much Stan Lee Marvel. Ironic, since Stan didn't create them. That was Arnold Drake, creator of the Doom Patrol. They were forgotten after their one appearance in '68 or' 69, until Steve Gerber redeveloped them in '75. Starlord, complete with immaculate conception, was created by Steve Englehart (just before the Avengers 150 debacle led Steve to leave Marvel for a number of years) and only recently was added to the Guardians. With such messed-up origins (especially once Claremont got ahold of of Starlord) it just made sense to turn them to comedy.

Drake thought Stan Lee based the X-Men on the original Doom Patrol. IIRC

IIRC The Guardians appeared in 1968 (cover dated January 1969) in Marvel Super-Heroes 18. Doom Patrol appeared in 1963, in My Greatest Adventure. Still have my MS-H 18, but drowned MGA/DP collection summer of 1968. Roy had the idea of a commandos (resistance fighters) in space, pitched it to Stan and Stan & Roy tossed it to Arnie who had recently been kicked from DC. Stan also gave X-men to Arnie for awhile, ironically. Drake often complained about X-men being a steal of the DP but considering lead production time required, it's doubtful. Simultaneous creation happens frequently in all endeavors, especially in the hard sciences.

You ask for definitions of the hard sciences and of comic books? OK, but not until JK! Studio's presentation is over.
