First Impression: It's way more complicated than I was expecting. This is not a bad thing by any means, just a surprise, back to reading

First Impression: It's way more complicated than I was expecting. This is not a bad thing by any means, just a surprise, back to reading Yeah, Tony Bath, it is not. I used to think that Bath inspired Gygax, but I don't think that that was the case anymore, as both men were creating at the same time. What was happening in the States and what was happening in the UK were both done independently of one another. Gary had expressed an interest in designing a game around Hyboria, but he never acted on it. Scott Bizar left TSR and created these rules with his roommate, again ignorant of Tony Bath.

Two words come to mind when reading the rules, primitive and jumbled with an over emphasis on campaign games. An ezample of the jumbled is the rules on wizards, they are spread in two dif sections, dumb. The point values are such so as you buy your army one fig at a time. The Conan rules are actually generic yet Thulsa Doom has his own rules. The Campaign rules are skimpy but adequate. All this being said they still look like they would be fun to play, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Scott Bizar NEVER WORKED FOR TSR! Deleted Blasphemy, will you people stop spreading cow manure! Instead of correcting the erroneous info in a respectful way, he throws a tantrum and deletes his account after lurking for a month or so.

The error is mine. I do try to fact check before posting. I guess that I was misinformed, or got the wrong impression somewhere. Scott Bizar never worked for TSR, he was the founder of Fantasy Games Unlimited.

He is not a crack pot, he is a grumpy old man in pain, as are many of us old guys, myself included.

I'm not sweating it. Any error that I make I would like to have corrected. Besides, how many internets users can make the claim that they get trolled by Mike Monard?

Dag, that's a bummer! Cranky Gronan is cranky is fun.
On a related note, I appreciate that folks here are willing to share their impressions of games along with the history.

Wikipedia claims to quote Shannon Appelcline's book, Designers & Dragons which I have not read.
This quote, as it applies to Dungeons & Dragons makes no sense. I can see him being dissatisfied by Warriors of Mars, it was one of TSR's attempts to make a game for everybody but pleased no one. I suppose that this would mean that Bizar wasn't into the whole D&D concept, but he is either going to start a company or he isn't, I don't see how D&D being published would be instrumental in that decision, but whatever. Consider this corrected.

Yeah, it is a bummer, but there seems to be a rash of whatever it is going around. I liked Gronans stories and will miss those.

Sure, it has a simple map movement rules, rules for recovering "damage", The point values for countries are not balanced but instead representing how powerful the kingdoms are. Terrain generating. Overall both simple and comprehensive. (Oh and have an exalt for trying to get back on topic)

I guess it is safe to say that Royal Armies of the Hyborian Age doesn't have campaign rules of the sort in Bath's Setting up a Wargames Campaign?

Well this was an interesting stroll down memory lane. When I started reading the thread again I thought Gronan was talking to me as rip's comment was deleted I guess. Wow I can't believe I forgot the whole thing. LOL, RAOTHA is not worth the drama.
