For those of us who cannot draw well enough to create something that is publishable, is there a good world map generation program that is low cost (or free) that will generate an icosahedral world map that you can print out on 8 1/2 by 11 sheets at 1 inch equals 50 miles or something close to that and will generate individual continents instead of one big pangaea continent?

I tried the free version of hexographer and its too fiddly for me.
I should really learn how to use it though, because some of the maps I've seen are beautiful.
For the moment though, I'm using gimp to make maps.

Gimp looks harder to use for a color blind person with no drawing skill.

I draw and publish the foul things, aesthetics be damned. Hopefully people have learned that I don't count illustration among my talents. I do own manuals and materials for learning to sketch and at some point I shall spend a month or two putting serious effort into that. Until then it's going to be things like this all the way down:

Looks like a very useful map for navigation to me, Von.
I really like the blackmoor maps with lots of river interconnection and islands to explore. Rivers act much like dungeon corridors in the wilderness: Do you take the right fork or the left fork?

I draw and publish the foul things, aesthetics be damned. This. Oh,dear God in heaven, this. I cannot possibly attain the necessary grasp of my native English language to lucidly and intelligently convey the sheer poignancy and basic beauty of the above statement. Give me functionality, usability, and readability... Or give me your cookies and I'll be on with my business.

I'm afraid I don't understand the reference But thank you for the exalt! I was not mocking you, and in fact endorse your statement fully and with unbridled glee, if that was the impression! Have an exalt yourself for such bold, at-the-table utility!! Game first, pretty second!!
