mao and mormonyoyoman were having a pm conversation and mao prevailed on mormonyoyoman to share that personal history with all of us. Here's that silly ol' brief recap of a decade of living out of a suitcase, which Mao first asked me to 'splain it to him. (Either Mao typed like Ricky Ricardo or I heard it like Lucy Ricardo.) Then he asked for it to be public shame knowledge, so here goes.Short story made long: From November 2002 - 2012, when my wife was a traveling financial medical consultant, I used to lecture around the country on living with diabetes. Getting people to come to something that boring was difficult - so I began studying and rehearsing then adding comedy magic to my lectures. That brought in kids and some adults, but not teenagers. By then, I had become friends with Richard Osterlind, the top mentalist in America (Kreskin stopped marketing himself as a mentalist and hypnotist long ago) who trained me and helped me develop a mentalism act. That brought in the angst-ridden teenagers. Surprisingly, some medical professionals who saw me at ADA conventions and health care trade shows, where I would draw people to the booth whichever sponsor had hired me....started hiring me for regular - non-medical shows. They were throwing so much money at me (not nearly Richard's fees, but around $1,500 an appearance) that I went with it - and overbooked myself to near-death. By then, I was entertaining in restaurants, senior communities, some private homes, Indian reservations, homeless shelters - all while still living with my own diabetes and Meniere's Disease (or Parkinson's. They still can't decide.) and lecturing on Living Well With Diabetes. Flying was killing my Meniere's, and a nasty fall smashed my knee, while the stress had caused heart damage. It was fun while it lasted, and I still perform light magic and mentalism for the now-teenaged grandkids. Our next-to-youngest has loved card transformations since she was three and would demand one as soon as I was wheeled in the door. And here I had thought my military career had been hazardous! *jeep! and God Bless! (Thank you, Red!) ---Grandpa Chet "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction" #share goodness That is just for that one period of time from which I am sure there are many stories to tell. And many more from the rest of his life which has involved much travel.

This is weird. A thread about me should be titled "the TMI Thread." I still don't understand what this has to do with rolegaming.

But - but according to Paranoid Riff, Mao and I are the same person anyway and therefore I did start this!
Who are you going to believe - Riff or your lying eyes?

mormonyoyoman, you are just teasing us so far, you have hundreds nay thousands of stories. We want to hear them. Some of which are remembered, some of which hide behind a cloud of brain fog. If you live long enough and travel often enough, you meet everyone and do a little of everything. Traveller even has a skill for it, and an old cliché describes it: Jack-of-all-trades, master of none.

We would be grateful if you would share stories of those you have met and some of the "little of everything" you have done. You mentioned the military, what branch were you in and for how long? I am curious if you have combat experience and, if so, how that informs your role-gaming?

Remind me later. Today I'm waiting for an exterminator who was supposed to be here any time from 7 am to 3 pm.
But be warned! When we disabled vets get together, especially at a VA hospital, we tend to talk on and on and on.
And we can get cranky. For instance, sitting here by the door fro is 0530 to now at 1504 and not a sight of any exterminator. I'm bolting the door and going potty.

Good luck with the exterminator, which family member did you call them for?

It seems like more than a month, but it's only been a week or two since I fell from the shower and spent some more time in my home away from home, the Michael E. DeBakey VA horshpital. Vestibular disorders are SO MUCH FUN. Sprained back; still can't sit up for more than a few minutes. They also took care of that abdominal wound which had swollen to impressive sizes and almost decided on nasty old surgery. And there's no wifi in that horshpital, nor much in the way of phone connectivity.
Thus it makes sense for me to update y'all at once in this thread, since it's going to take a while (at the rate of a few minutes per day) to get caught up on every thread. I did respond to an email from our illustrious Mr PD yesterday or Monday, and thought I'd be able to post here right after that. But, as now, I feel as if I'm losing consciousness or conscientious or conscience or something, and must set this aside. I'm just glad to be home. Maybe I'll be able to piece together just what happened, but I can't count on my memory in the best of times.
Back soon.

Looked in for an hour today. I CAN SIT UP for up to two hours at a time now, so I have to sign off. Am getting caught up on Ebon's pbp, including printing out & saving vital information on paper and in my portion of The Cloud. And now I have to take my brace off and lay down again. Shall read my print-outs, fall into a 2-3 hour coma, then get up & pay bills. If there's anything left and I'm not too broke to even pay attention, I'll be bringing my PCs back to consciousness right after that is finished. (Boy, can I ever cause new medical bills! A new skill! NOT a Feat.)
