ok, I lied. But it got your attention. If you have not seen posts in other places, Secrets of Blackmoor the documentary is trying to raise funds to offset expenses on the final stages of the film. Having seen that a lot of people over worked and under delivered on kick Starter we are trying a different approach. We are offering T-shirts for sale. These are original limited edition T-shirts by Bob Bledsaw of judges guild. Bob was kind enough to donate his art to the project. So it isn't like you pay your money and... You didn't even get the T-shirt. *groan* You can get a T-shirt here: www.secretsofblackmoor.com(navigate to the Shop and you are there!) If that is not enough, if you get a shirt before Sept. 2, we will also give you a FREE access code to see a 35 minute draft of the film. You can see a sample from the movie draft here: You can also check out our blog where we post about all kinds of game related things: www.secretsofblackmoor.com/blog/quick-and-dirty-disposable-dungeons-part-1-the-mapThanks. Nice place you got here

Thank you for posting about your project secretsofblackmoor, so of us don't get out much and we don't know about these things. I can't remember the last time I followed a link to a kick starter. That happens when you are an old man on a fixed income. The shirts look incredible and so does the sample. I feel badly that I can't contribute financially to your project all I can say is that I will tell people about it. When it is complete how is it going to be released? I would love to see it when it is complete. Oh and have an exalt for telling us about it.

Thank you secretsofblackmoor, for taking the time to bring us into the loop. As Dartanian said there are a lot of old fixed income guys on this forum, so I don't know how many of us can buy a shirt (thanks for making me drool), but we will definitely help you get the word out. We have a Facebook page and a Google+ site and several people here have blogs that would (I am sure) be happy share those links around.

I would love to see it when it is complete. Oh and have an exalt for telling us about it. We understand that everyone's life is different. While working on the film my yearly income was about 15 - 20 k per year. I wasn't doing much either. Yet there are non pecuniary ways to help other people. in the case of this project, it's all seat of your pants and we need a fan base of people to support us by getting other people to look at our various web locations and help us expand our fan base. Since we're relying on things like T-shirt sales to help fund the next stage of Post production , we really need people power more than anything. Not everyone will want a shirt, but if you can get your friends to see it, maybe just one will. If you PM me, I can get you a code for the screener, there is no reason that you should not be seeing it, as you are doing a lot by posting about this project.

We got to preserve the history of our beloved hobby or we leave it to disappear or others write a warped version of in part to defame the founders & origins of the hobby.

The info is there. It just needs to be dug out and organized. The story is complex. All we want to do is give credit to ALL the people who made D&D happen. The feud between Arneson and Gygax put all the other early creators into obscurity. The current histories do not expand on the depth of development that happened in the Twin cities either If you ask simple questions like: Where did the first RPG take place? Where did the first Western theme RPG campaign take place? Where did the first sci fi RPG campaign take place? Where did the first fantasy RPG campaign take place? You can answer it with one word: Minnesota. At the same time, is it necessary to say bad things about Gary Gygax? No, he was integral to the invention of RPG's as well. Yet everyone knows his story, although a lot of it is a bit exaggerated. Can we talk about Dave Arneson without people saying that he had nothing to do with it, yes. There is so much evidence to put Arneson as true inventor of modern RPG's that no one can deny it anymore. It was in Dave Arneson's parent's basement that the first DM said: What do you want to do? And someone else said: We go down the stairs and into the dungeon! It really is that simple.

And someone else said: We go down the stairs and into the dungeon! It really is that simple. Other people had elements, but it was Arneson that brought it all together. Some people point to the Braunsteins and want to give all the credit to Wesely since it is no longer reasonable to give it to Gygax (anything to avoid giving credit to Arneson, sigh) But in that Braunstein, Wesely provided pretty standard game elements kind of like a murder mystery night with a little bit more included, Arneson took advantage of Wesely and hijacked the whole game into places that Wesely never foresaw, didn't like and didn't want to do again. You could make the point that Arneson singlehandedly created the role-playing game right there on the fly in real time during that game even though it still was a while before he started running the full blown thing, but after that night, it became inevitable. Wesely did not see it or understand it and had to be talked into running another Braunstein, and given that it is pretty hard to call Wesely the Father of Role-Playing, just as it is hard to call Gygax the Father of Role-Playing which as been going on for years. There is a lot of revisionist history being put out there right now, trying to retcon Wesely's part in the whole thing. Wesely does deserve a lot of credit, just not that particular piece of credit. You are right that we can give Arneson his due without saying bad things about Gygax or Wesely for that matter.

Heck I want this forum to be that not only Arneson would want to be apart of but Dave Hargrave, Ken St. Andre & Mark Miller would feel at home at. I agree, I was just not wanting to make a really long list of people, but yeah this too, here I will fix it. We are not like any other forum, we are unique. Check out our newly written Statement of Purpose which is only slightly revised from the original. We try to be a place that Dave Arneson, Dave Hargrave, Ken St.Andre, Mark Miller and James Ward would want to hang out. Obviously the two Dave's if they were still with us, and for Ken, Mark and James, if they knew about us and had some incentive to come check us out since they already have places they hang out. And before anyone suggest more names, I can already think of more, so let's just stop there before it gets really long and unwieldy.

Well, I know a lot of people who are in the business. I am sure David Wesely would be more than glad to come chat. I would point out that he is much more of a war gamer, so if you ask him about dragon special attacks while fighting hobbit paladins, he may not really engage. But, he would certainly illuminate you on Strategos and other war games type things. And of course, he is always willing to talk about a certain RPG that some would not even call an RPG. Other people are in the film, I could email them a link.

Diplomacy variants is another I have heard of. I have seen mentioned in an old thread someplace about Midgard/Midgard II a play by mail game that came from Germany to England to the USA that had a lot of D&D like elements, but it never went anywhere. After D&D was published apparently there were some revisions to it from D&D, so there could have been some pollination going both ways. One of many games that we would love to see the original rules for. Anyone that shows up would be welcome. I hope Mr. Wesely would not be too offended by my speculation above.

But there's no yo-yo pocket! There's so much demand, and we would need to do it right which would really raise labor costs. But for only 9.99 you can get the DIY burlap Yoyo harness kit that sews right onto the shirt!

LOL I was never a fan of that Wesley either & definitely don't care for the actor who plays him. But the other Wesley of Braunstein's fame is good in my book.

Gee, they're up to $9.99 now? Glad I bought so many when Tom Van Dan Elzen bought Playmaxx/ProYo from Don Duncan Jr and got rid of a lot of back inventory cheaply. Pre-sized pockets were a must for t-shirt manufacturers who weren't yoyologist-friendly. (i. e. Hanes vs Fruit-of-the-Loom.)

Chet we are talking about the guy whose last name is spelled Wesely, not about the actor of dubious talent whose characters first name is Wesley. See spelling does make a difference.

No, no yo yo, the guy who took credit for other peoples ideas is that fraud Thomas Edison. He was just lucky that Nikola Tesla wasn't into revenge.
