As one of the new mods I feel that we should be transparent with you all on how we'll be managing the forums since The Perilous Dreamer chose to step away to keep Ruins of Murkhill from being closed. Much of what we in the Steering Committee want to implement TPD's planned decluttering and reorganization of the forums to make things easier to navigate. I doubt we'll do the specialized separate forums dedicated to Non-D&D games unless TPD made them and passed them onto our Admin El Borak. But things need to be consolidated to make things easy for old hands here & noobs. In this thread I would like the community to offer their ideas on how we your staff can best do this without compromising the forums that we've grown to love. We want to use TPD's thoughts on this to guide our decisions in our process to revitalize Ruins of Murkhill. I personally want this place to be the welcoming and engaging community that I fell in love with. I hope that I am not stepping on the Admin Pete or other staff's toes posting this; but we need to be open & transparent with our community. One thing we are considering is having a sub-form dedicated to post OD&D editions of D&D (Holmes Basic, Moldvay/Cook B/X D&D, BECMI, 1e AD&D & up to 5e) where you preface your thread title with e.g [5e D&D] then {subject title} but the discussions are (in our hope) to be aimed at giving advice to how to run these games with an Old school feel.

After I read your comments before TPD left and the topic was broached by another member here I started thinking on how I would run say 5e but in a Old School fashion. I basically realized I let my frustration cloud my perception of these other rules & did look for ways I could take what I liked from them but frame it in a Old School way. I think a lot of it also stemmed from the people I gamed with who wanted to either have all the options to create their builds or said stuff like "Hurry up & roll" when i tried to role play my actions. In the end it is the people you game with not the rules that matter.

I brought my steel-toed shoes, it protects my feet and they are good for kicking someones behind if I need to. So first up, yes we have a Steering Committee (now known as The Council of The Five). It is currently formed of those who were pming the Admin account and asking how they could help. So it consists currently of myself( Admin Pete / El Borak ), mormonyoyoman , Hexenritter Verlag , ripx187 and mao . All but mao are on staff. We are not currently planning on expanding it, but that is not a final decision, it is mostly because the bigger the group the harder to make decisions. Next, even if no drama existed, TPD had plans to re-organize and declutter the board to make it easier to find things. He also wanted to spotlight a lot of old school games that generally get short shrift. He also wanted to highlight how some of our members play newer versions of D&D in an old school style and teach people how we go about doing that. If you have been to JMiskimen 's blog you get some ideas. So as Hexenritter Verlag said, we would suggestions from all members and every idea will get consideration. Even if we don't implement something now, that does not mean it will not be implemented later. The changes will be made gradually so that we can all get used to each piece of this as we go until the changes are complete.

I agree 100% ... you can almost play any edition of D&D with an old school feel if you try. I have advertised my FLGS game as "5E Rules, Old School Feel" and have found new players really enjoying it - the immersion level to the game for the players is far greater with that Old School touch than mere RAW. TPD felt that he had been remiss in not making the most of having JMiskimen on the forum and that he and a few others had a lot to contribute in ways that they had not really had a chance to do yet.

Ideas can be posted in this thread or you can pm them to myself or one of the other four members of the Steering Committee The Council of The Five if you are shy (that is not knocking you for being shy, just saying don't let that stop your voice from being heard).
I want all ideas brought into the Steering Committee The Council of The Five's Discussions and we will chew that all over, ruminate on them and implement what we think we really work the best for the whole forum.

Weare trying to keep the spirit of TPD's vision for Murkhill and desired consolidations he had started preparing for before he stepped away so he wouldn't be used as a excuse to delete this forum. He'll be missed but we want to honor him but make Murkhill a vibrant place like it used to be.

Oh and btw we will never ask members to submit photo IDs of themselves or other personal information as a pre-condition for membership or as a condition of continuing as a member. We also will not delete or ban members for not posting enough or at all. While posters are valued contributing members of any forum, lurking is also a time honored Internet tradition. In addition, while we will ban members for bad behavior if proven to be absolutely necessary and unavoidable, we do not delete accounts. Any accounts showing as deleted are self deleted by the member themselves and NEVER by the moderation team.
