17. Use your brain.
This should be number one on the list, not last on the list.

Now for eldrad's Yet Another DUNGEONPUNK RPG MANIFESTO. 1. Violence is the answer to most questions, next is talking about it and thinking. Yeah, that is dungeonpunk, but the old school way is to remember that violence is often the answer when there is no time to think. But also remember violence is a good way to make potential friends into enemies.

2. The world is only there to make you a victim and take everything from you so screw the world.
That is the glass is empty view. The world does not know you are there and your job is to gain power before the world notices you.

3. You must take what you want and fight to keep it, just not die over it.
A good way to do this is to be careful what you take and from whom you take it. Leave the authorities for last and always, always use surprise.

4. Humanoids and Demons are inherently evil and must be killed before they kill you and destroy everything you value.
Humanoids should be used on your behalf, anytime you can swing it. Persauding humanoids to be cannon fodder is a great skill to acquire.

5. Foul unnatural beasts are mostly evil and must be killed before they kill you.
But if you can trick them into fighting demons for you, go for it.

6. The nobility for the most part are selfish evil and don't care about the lower class of people and will use you without care.
Just remember that when the lower class of people become rich they too will tend towards selfish evil as well. Given power, old friends will turn on you.

7. The church is corrupt and only cares about power and gold.
Remember this is not the real church, this is the corporate, official, wealthy, and powerful church that lost its way long ago in the unholy alliance with the nobility. Also don't forget that the church and nobility hate each other.

8. The lower class does not stick together as most people are out of themselves and will do what they must to survive.
Hunger and poverty corrupts good morals.

9. The party is the only family most of you have, but a family member can still betray you.
Sad, but true. Beware of the cowards among you, they can never be trusted. Remember all cowards, worship at the altar of greed.

10. Make sure that you always have a plan of escape, especially when you are in a "safe" place.
Wise words to heed.

11. Those who do not make every effort to survive no matter what, will die as no one deserves to live.
Don't take life for granted and don't let your guard down.

12. A true friend is rare and yet still may betray you.
Sad, but true. Be alert and recognize the warning signs of cowardice and greed. Corruption can grow, where once there was none.

13. There are no true friends, only people who have not been make the right offer to sell you out.
This is almost most always true, but wonderfully there are those rare ones who remain uncorrupted.

14. There is no "safe" space and the longer you stay the more unsafe it becomes.
This is true. Only when you are alone are you truly safe, but there are few places that remote.

15. Cultists are the worst of enemies as they have no problem killing themselves to kill you and everyone around and they have no limits on how screwed up they can be.
This! If you run afoul of cultists you will have to kill them all.

16. Most of the gods don't care and if you do contact a god then most likely it just wants to eat you.
Let sleeping gods sleep.

17. Live life, party, and have good times while you can because either you will die or grow too old and then die.
Have a lot of sons, as many as you can. All you need is at least one, who still loves you when you are old. Or a grandson, a loyal grandson is good too!

18. Always get vengeance when you can but also know when to run away so you can get vengeance later.
Avoid getting into those kinds of binds. Vengeance is a double edged sword that likes to turn in the hand and cut the wielder.

7. There's no such thing as an inherently evil orc. Oh you can play that way sure, but that is not dungeonpunk. In dungeonpunk the orc would be even more evil, not less. Yeah, you get it, dungeon punk would be greater evil.

Next up is the DungeonPunk Counter-Manifesto 1. If it's in a Dungeon and needs your help, it's a trap. Well that is the most likely possibility; however, it is also just as likely that this is a future best friend that turns out to be that one person or creature that won't betray you. Yeah, there is always one, but you have to recognize them or you forfeit them. Not giving help can be a trap too! This is more old school than anything else. I like that, that is a great idea.

2. The world is only there to make you a victim and take everything from you so screw the world. That is the glass is empty view. The world does not know you are there and your job is to gain power before the world notices you. That is a really good point, grab power before they know you are there.

14. There is no "safe" space and the longer you stay the more unsafe it becomes. This is true. Only when you are alone are you truly safe, but there are few places that remote. So . . . basically you agree with elrad's dungeonpunk definitions [absent a few minor quibbles]?

Grimdark is hard to beat. I'm a sucker for the plain old points of light idea that greatness came "before" and we're just rats scuttling in the refuse of a fallen world. Exploring their ruins. Yeah, I would like to think that civilization predates recorded history by 50,000 years or more.

9. Trust the thief to do his job. It will also mean he's stealing from you. If you are the thief, deny that. In old school and dungeonpunk, never, ever, ever trust the thief. If you trust the thief, you are definitely playing new school. Have an exalt dilvish, that is a good rule in game and IRL too.
