mao is still having a lot of pain with his arm, with three breaks I can understand that. It makes trying to post difficult. His wife is in a lot of pain, but is regaining sensation in her leg. He says she is crying less which tells you how bad it has been. He will not be on much as he says things short term are going to be really crazy. Please be praying for mao and his wife.

She is not open to the "pilling"methods? The only way I can get her to take pills is wrapped in cheese, but she is turning that down still, but hopefully will take it by this evening. I used to do that but Damian somehow figured out there was a pill inside the cheese so he started eating the cheese and leaving the pill on the floor. I've used Pill Pockets ever since. No issues.

Sorry that you are going to have to go through a total shoulder replacement, but if that is what it takes to have use of your arm, then so be it. Wishing you ahead of time a great result and a fast recovery.

I just realized that it has been nearly a month since raikenclw has logged in to the forums. I hope that he is OK, I know his life has got a lot going on right now. Please join me in praying for him. I'm okay now (more or less), but was recently very NOT okay. On the morning of 9/22, I was discovered by the person arriving to work morning shift lying on the floor, semi-conscious. I was very weakly repeating, "Help." over and over. The ambulance delivered me to the local hospital, where I was in the ICU for about a week then got transferred to a room for a couple of days and finally got released Friday evening 10/1. According to the hospital's official release paperwork, I had been suffering from a blood sugar crisis. But my sister Nancy (a physical therapist) and one of my nurses told me that I had also contracted spinal meningitis. I know they were intravenously pumping me full of a range of different antibiotics. They were also obsessed with trying to get my potassium into normal range, so much so that I spent most of my conscious time (the last couple of days) nauseated. I'm more or less back to my normal activities now. My main problems right now are with my very swollen throat (I was intubated for the breathing machine and that did NOT go well) and apparent total lack of beneficial gut bacteria (leading to restroom visits every little while). Also, I get tired VERY easily; just taking a shower and getting dressed wears me out completely. But I'm alive! And thanks to all for the prayers! I'm sure they made the difference!

You have been through a lot, diabetes is not for wimps and blood sugar crisis is very serious. Spinal meningitis is rare, but deadly I am so glad they found you in time. I also hope they help you with the beneficial gut bacteria. The range of different antibiotics will really do a number on the good bacteria which are vital for health. Tell them you want a fecal transplant from a healthy thin young person (*not joking). Hoping for a speedy recovery and for you to get your energy back. We (I) will continue to pray for you. *Research so far indicates that bacteria from the gut of a healthy fit thin person may offer hope for reducing obesity better than anything else that has been tried.

Thanks, everyone!
As to the healthy gut bacteria, I'll ask the VA about it. I've been discharged from the local hospital and I sincerely doubt they will want anything more to do with me. My sister [who was there while I was only semi-conscious] tells me that they seemed largely concerned with getting me well enough to leave, so that my space could go to another Covid victim. Also, they were worried about getting sued over my bungled intubation. It's almost two weeks since my discharge, yet I still can't swallow well, which in addition to the obvious also makes sleeping really difficult (I wake up after only an hour or so, feeling like I'm drowning). Also, I can speak only in a hoarse whisper and must enunciate with great care. I've been trying to get the VA to give a swallowing/physical therapy order for me to a local therapy service, but it's like trying to move a glacier.

We have Veterans in my family, including combat Veterans and I have heard a ton of VA stories. Another thing for us to pray about, that you get the treatment you need for your throat. If they are worried about getting sued, you would think they would be extra helpful, but not the VA.

I've been trying to get the VA to give a swallowing/physical therapy order for me to a local therapy service, but it's like trying to move a glacier. I'm an 8 year Army veteran. My Dad was in the Marine Corps. He passed away in the local VA the first week of January of this year. He still had money on his books up there. By regulation/policy/whatever they have 90 days to get a descendant the money. Here it is in October and I still haven't been able to get the money. It's not about the money or the amount, it's about just getting this whole process wrapped up. The lady at the local VA finally called today and said she bypassed the office in Oklahoma City and I should have the money by Friday or know exactly when I'm getting it by Friday. Fingers crossed... I just posted this to draw attention to the red-tape and constant irritation that Veterans go through by the very department that's set up to take care of our needs. Believe me, I would much rather the money be delayed than someone getting the care or follow up they needed BUT it just shows that it's across the board; paperwork, procedures, checkups, etc. It's all one big mess. I pray that you get the medical attention you not only need but deserve, raikenclw.

I would do this, tell the insurance companies that they all have to offer Veterans policies, all the policies have to provide that same level of care that Congress gets, no out of pocket for the Vet and they can go to any provider. If you think a provider is a quack, take your case to the medical licensure board, in the mean time you pay all claims and you have no say in treatment. Also all providers have to accept this insurance and no provider can turn a Vet away for something that their practice treats. All Vets are automatically covered and are randomly assigned to an insurance company, a simple phone call can switch companies and a team of attorneys is on call to handle Vet complaints. See the law could be short and sweet and fix it all quickly.
