So, anybody here a fan of Big Eyes Small Mouth, or any of the licensed games based on its system? The most popular of which being The Sailor Moon Role-Playing Game and Resource Book, released in 1999 by Guardians of Order, of course.
I am a huge fan of Big Eyes Small Mouth, now unfortunately out of print and originally released in 1998. It's a great rules-light generic system based on anime and manga tropes, and while technically a "new school game", it took a lot of inspiration from Old-School thoughts and designs.
In fact, the first edition of Big Eyes Small Mouth, along with the Sailor Moon RPG is probably my favorite "new school" RPG, right up there with the first edition of Vampire: The Masquerade.
Anybody else here ever play it?

I love me some Sailormoon, but I have never played BESM. We used Champions for my Sailormoon Time Travel campaign

I may still have my 2e BESM rulebook someplace, but never played it. None of my friends wanted to learn another system or play a anime/manga inspired game. I love anime, manga & Light Novels, but I'd try to find a way to do it with OD&D; maybe use Guardians & White Star White Box RPG to come up with something to do it. I always wanted to play in Anima: Beyond Fantasy, but the only guy I know who ran it flaked out on it. Never been a fan of Sailor Moon, but wanted to try the Fusion based Votom Troopers & Bubblegun Crisis games.

I've always wanted to do an anime-themed OSR or OD&D game myself.
I'd love to do an OD&D game inspired by those MMO-themed anime shows like Sword Art Online or Confessions Of An MMO Junkie.
And then you have classic anime fantasy shows like The Slayers, Berserk, InuYasha, and Record of Lodoss War (I'm not very familiar with the last one, but I do know it was originally based on a D&D campaign played by the show's creators)

Slayers is okay, I own a Slayers movie on VHS. There are some other interesting fantasy & sci-fantasy anime like 'Chaika the Coffin Princess', 'El Hazzard/the Wanderers tv series', 'The Seven Deadly Sins', 'Scrapped Princess' & 'The Tower of Druaga'. I have yet to watch Sword Art Online, but I've been reading both the manga & Light Novels for it & enjoy them. If you like SOA docsammy, you might like Log Horizen & Accel World. Another anime/Light Novel/manga series that pulls inspiration from MMOs is 'Is it wrong to pick up girls in a Dungeon?' - I love that series. It is based on a world where the deities came to the world & live among their worshipers (with their powers contained on threat of banishment back to the upper world); these deities run Houses that either have a specific business that their members support or work in. The most of these Gods live in the city of Orario which sits on top of the worlds only true dungeon. It is a fun read, I need to watch the anime as well.

I have just begun writing an RPG-themed fan-fiction story based on Big Eyes Small Mouth, titled "War Toys: Operation Martin Hollow", which I have linked below. Feel free to check it out and leave a comment on it if you want. I just started it today and already I have written the second chapter, with more on the way! archiveofourown.org/works/13863942/chapters/31892457

From 1999 to 2003 BESM was my game of choice. Played 2e, never even saw 1e until much later. Never was into anime per se, but most of the ideas I came up with sounded like some obscure anime. Played Star Wars where the end of New Hope had Luke going over to the Dark Side and having Yavin being blown up. Cockfighting Siezure Monsters had a boystown crew of orphans fight with Pokemons that turned into demons ("Kill that cat and I will be able to attack a second time in combat"). A Band Of Templars showed up at the end to kill them all. Good times...
