Old experienced ogres such as the owner/bartender are very tough possibly way more than 4 HD, young ogres are tough but likely less then 4 HD, average mature ogre is likely 4 HD. So . . . thirty years ago, Ogre Bartender would have been young? Or mature? Even "likely less than 4 HD" is still rather above 1 HD (our party). And they apparently had their asses handed to them. In-game, our characters would need to be supremely [over]confident, in order to take on this job given the information provided. But then again, Sora tends to be confident and Josiah is content to follow his lead, since this hasn't gotten them killed . . . yet.
