Wy can sense that there does seem to be a bit of magic about the water and the ogre will happily sell you more (twice the cost of a mug) to fill your waterskin. Wy pays the ogre and fills his waterskin. OOC: Scratching 6 silver from char sheet.

Sliggoth is happy to suggest a plan. "I've heard that somewhere northwest is a massive ancient ruin that even the raiders shy away from, but a survivor made it back to tell the tale of a haunted jumbled mass of stones all are afraid to enter. That sounds like fun. And there is a wizard that would pay us to retrieve an item for him that may result in our gruesome death. That sounds funner!" Well, I'm not sure that I would use the word fun to describe our potential venture, however, that does sound like a promising place to explore and test our mettle. “Aye, sounds like a promising destination. Do we know how far this ancient ruin is said to be?”

Well, I'm not sure that I would use the word fun to describe our potential venture, however, that does sound like a promising place to explore and test our mettle. “Aye, sounds like a promising destination. Do we know how far this ancient ruin is said to be?” As you investigate the rumor more closely and confer with the bartender, you learn that it would be able two weeks of steady travel on foot with at least 10 hours a day spent walking. Also the ogre implies that he might know a bit more about those ruins. Also the mage with a mission was mentioned, are you approaching him? Also is Shiyazthar visiting "Hides, Pelts & Skins?" Due to the time frames and your finances you may not be able to hire anyone, however, as noted you can pursue things through the Character Creation threads or the three orcs and/or other locals may be willing to join you for a full share of whatever you gain. Just let me know what each of you want to do and feel free to pm me if you want. Finishing his cold sweetwater, Shiyazthar stands and shoulders his sack. "If none wish to accompany me to barter pelts & silver with Smokey Pete, I shall return and we may discuss preparations, provisions, and (eyeing Kavita) whether there may be a purpose to this gathering." He pauses for a moment, then heads out the door. Kavita, meanwhile, has not even touched her drink, and is doodling something in the condensation from her mug. See 001 Hides, Pelts & Skins

Ah, sorry, what’s the exchange rate? (I had been thinking 5 copper to 1 silver, w/ 10 copper for the earlier mug + 20 copper for the water skin.) Wy only has one waterskin now, which he wants to fill with this water, but once done in The Laughing Ogre, he intends to find a shop to purchase a second waterskin to fill with regular water. EDIT: OK, I see the exchange rates. I will update charsheet based on that.

The tavern door opens and a couple of apparent fighters enter. One is a rather large human (e.g. Strength 18), the other a somewhat smaller Deveuil [an Alien race who are the spitting image of a devil: reddish skin, goat-like legs/hooves, horns, barbed tail, the works]. While smaller than his human companion, the Deveuil is not all THAT small (e.g. Strength 13). Both individuals are clad is the battered but well-maintained studded leather armor that is the hallmark of competent yet not prosperous mercenaries. The Deveuil seems to be in charge, as he leads his large companion to an empty table, then dispatches him to the bar for drinks. In a few moments, said individual returns with two foaming mugs of what is apparently beer. As the human sets down the mugs, the Deveuil removes a lumpy roll of cloth from his pack. Opened and spread out on their table, the proves to be a chess board and a set of crudely carved stone, bone and wooden pieces. Unless interrupted, the pair fall to quietly playing, with the Deveuil obviously instructing the human as play proceeds. [OOC 1: Yes, these are my characters: the Deveuil is Sora Damocleese (would-be paladin), while his companion is Josiah Planchet (henchman).] [OOC 2: For the GM's information, Josiah did NOT tip the barman - the two are currently conserving their funds, in hopes of affording better armor soon.] Herv is rather impressed with the brawny man and the weird looking barbed tail monstrosity, he says to Sliggoth, "Now there is a pair that should help round out the group. How about we talk with them and also those orcs?"

Wy’s preference is for Lawful hirelings, but at this point he will take what he can get. [OOC: Wy should be rather interested in the two additional mercenaries who just walked into the tavern. In contrast to the lewd** and crude** half-orcs, the Deveiul and his large human companion seem to be quiet, civilized sorts . . . **Hey! They're half-orcs! Of course they're lewd and crude!]

Kavita appears to be eavesdropping on Herv, Sliggoth, and Mr Brawny. ("The quicker picker-upper!") Absent-mindedly, she continues drawing with her finger in the water condensation from her mug. She looks disturbed or even afraid.

[Herv] says, "Welcome fellow adventurers, I am Herv and my friend here is Sliggoth, we and our friends are discussing possible adventure for fun and fortune and wondered if you two would be interested in joining the discussion and perhaps accompanying us?" The gamers look up from their board as the trio of individuals walk/slither up to their table. At Herv's pronouncement, the brawny fellow glances at his barbed-tail companion, who shrugs then begins to roll up his chess set. As he does so, the Deveuil comments in a gravelly voice, "Being between jobs at that moment, we might as well hear you out." His large companion grunts inarticulately and nods in agreement. Rising from their seats, the two return to the group's table, where the Deveuil addresses everyone thusly in his harsh voice: "Greetings! I am Sora Damocleese and this is my boon companion, Josiah Planchet."Josiah nods, adding in a surprisingly high-pitched voice: "Not much for talking. Sora handles that."Nodding at his friend, Sora resumes rumbling: "We are free mercenaries, not currently under contract. This fellow here" - waving at Herv - "says that you're organizing an adventuring group. We are not opposed to joining such, but would like more details. Particularly, I and Josiah are followers of the One God and - while we do not require that anyone else be such - neither do we wish to join any endeavor which would not find favor with Him."

Particularly, I and Josiah are followers of the One God and - while we do not require that anyone else be such - neither do we wish to join any endeavor which would not find favor with Him. “I’m an adherent to the way of Odin. An explorer of new ideas and philosophies. But may you know that I stand for justice and civilization, and abhor the contingents of chaos. We have proposed an expedition to ruins in the northwest. Join with us, friend, that we may all grow stronger.”

Shiyazthar approaches the crowded table and squeezes between K and Whomsoever. He starts a bit when he looks up - and up - and up at one newcomer.
Whispering to his amnesiac companion, he raises the wrong eyebrow: "A deevehl? And you were worried about orcs."
"I do not know why I fear orcs," she whispers right back. "But I feel no such dread of the deef-eL as you call her. Him. Whatever."

" . . . I stand for justice and civilization, and abhor the contingents of chaos." Sora and Josiah both nod, with Sora going so far as to assay a small, relieved smile. The pair then looking inquiringly about at the others surrounding the table. "We have proposed an expedition to ruins in the northwest. Join with us, friend, that we may all grow stronger.” Sora purses his lips for a moment, then rumbles: "'Join' how, exactly? As hirelings for wages, as partners for shares or as something else? I have found that clarity in such matters at the outset of any endeavor is strongly advisable."
