Kinda of a mixed bag. The tumor has not shrunk from the chemo, but it has not grown either. There are two types of this cancer one is aggressive and responds well to chemo and one is not aggressive and responds poorly to chemo. In addition, it is possible that she has a type of cancer that will respond to a hormone blocker. So they are looking to schedule surgery (laparoscopic) for early to mid November (and avoid open surgery if possible) this will help recovery and they will remove as much as they safely can and then they will do more tests and then she will get more chemo or the hormone blocker whichever is appropriate. So very much good news bad news kinda day. So now trying to get her knee healed up and get her strength back for the surgery. Time to roll a 20 on her health check! Nat and I hope for a superlatively positive outcome to it all!

Hang in there. This means there are more good possibilities than bad.

Sometimes, being human just sucks. Other times, its not so bad. On rare occasions, it is delightful. During the 'sucky' times, hold tight to those 'delightful' moments. It might not be much, but sometimes its all we got.
Always in our thoughts.

Thank you everyone for your support, it is much appreciated by my wife and myself. Then tell her to kick Cancer's butt! Our previous bishop also works for a living as a cancer specialist cleric, Level 74. PhD in three cancer and genetics specialties. He and his staff told me, over and over, that they can tell with almost 100% accuracy who will respond to treatment (when they find the correct treatment) because those are the ones with the most positive, can-do, and loving traits. Being human can suck in a lot of ways (Pain HURTS!) but we're tougher than orcs, trolls, and Cancer thinks we are. And we breed well in captivity. Kick Cancer's Butt!

My wife has cancer surgery on the morning of the 16th, so I will not be online for a while. I will be at the hospital pretty much the whole day on the 16th & 17th and if all goes really well she will come home on the 18th. The surgeon is going to try to do everything that has to be done with laparoscopic surgery, but depending on the size of the mass may have to open her up to get it. If the latter were to happen, then she would be in the hospital longer. We are hoping for the shortest possible surgery time needed and the least invasive. Also hoping that she tolerates the anesthesia well and makes a good recovery.
Your thoughts and prayers will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
It took me a few days to work up to this post. The good news is that in spite of the fact that they were not able to do the laparoscopic surgery and the size of the incision, she seems to be healing well and has surprisingly little pain. She is getting by most on Tylenol and has only used about five total heavy duty pain pills since she came home at noon on Saturday. She doesn't like to take them and says they make her mind weird (I have no conception of that since heavy duty pain meds in doses that would kill most people only take the edge off of pain for me) so I am very happy that God answered my prayers for her to have just enough pain to keep her from over doing things. She has been sleeping well and is able to get up and down without help.
The bad news is that they did have to make a big incision and there is a lot of cancer, way more than they thought from the imaging and a lot of it is inoperable. The doctor sent the tumors they removed off to be tested to see what other treatment options we may have. She is talking in terms about maintaining quality of life for her remaining time. While there may be options once the tests are done the oncologist is not about giving false hope. My wife (we) are in shock right now, but doing our best to stay positive. I am picking up Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and all I have to do is heat it up. Saturday we are going out to a matinée movie.
Your prayers are appreciated.
David

Here is the latest, I have been putting this off for a bit.
So my wife goes back on the 19th to find out where we go from here with her cancer. In the meantime I lost my job (have insurance through the end of the month) and I found out my prostate cancer has come back three years after the surgery. I have been referred to an advanced treatment center to see if I have any options other than radiation. As you can imagine we are both a mess right now. I take a break now and then here, but mostly working on finding a new job and spending time with my wife.
Please continue to pray for us.
Thank you.
