Exploration Turn 8Gory Flory listens at the first door clockwise from the door they entered (1d6=?), but hears nothing beyond. Mensa charges the second door (1d6=?), and it opens readily to a long passage leading straight ahead to a murky darkness beyond the reach of torchlight. Zipper inspects the four empty sarchophogi. They are hewn from stout black stone, and were once polished to a gleam, but have since been weathered by age. (1d6=?) He can find no secret compartments, and the empty ones hold nothing but dust and detritus. ZuZu stands watch, but sees nothing coming from the corridor. Gory Flory asks Mensa to listen carefully for any noise from the long passage and then close the door and join she and Yuglit. She also asks Zipper to come join them too. Once they are there, Yuglit will attempt to open this door. ZU-ZU!! will continue to watch the original corridor for the time being.

You wish for Mensa to first spend a turn listening down the passage behind the second door, and then on the subsequent turn, the party will attempt to open the first door?

You wish for Mensa to first spend a turn listening down the passage behind the second door, and then on the subsequent turn, the party will attempt to open the first door? Sorry I am not used to this turn length. No I want Mensa to spend a minute (1/10 of a turn) listening and if he hears nothing, close the door and spend another minute in joining us and then we will spend the last 8 minutes on the first door. Also to be clear, we are at no time going to be doing a straight 10 minutes of noisily trying to open a door. We will make two attempts and then try other things, we are trying not to make a lot of noise unnecessarily that may attract wandering monsters or guards.

If a door does not immediately open, it will take a full turn for each subsequent attempt. Likewise, if no loud noise is immediately behind the door, a full turn of listening must be had to listen for anything beyond.
Exploration Turn 9
Mensa does not hear anything immediately down the passageway. The party assembles behind the first door, and yulgit throws his weight against it (1d6=?), but it holds tight.
The referee rolls a wandering monster check (1d6=?), but nothing seems to show up.

Mensa: "Why trying to be quiet?"

Mensa finds the sarchophogus lids far too heavy to lift by himself. He hazards a guess it might take the strength of four men to lift.
Applying his entire strength against the lid, he finds he could slowly slide it off, but this would be exhausting and take some great deal of time if he should wish to do so.

Gory Flory does not like this room, since attacks could come from four directions at once. Since some are determined to check the sarcophagus first Gory Flory signals everyone to join each other there. She suggests that Zipper, Yuglit and Mensa work on opening one of the sarcophagi and be very careful as to what might be inside. She suggests that ZU-ZU!! continue to keep watch and she prepares to present the wooden cross if needed and to attempt to turn if needed.

Exploration Turn 10
Zipper, Yulgit, and Mensa work to lift a lid from one of the stone sarchophoguses. Its heavy work for two dwarfs and a thief, and it takes a good deal of blood, sweat, tears, cursing, stubbed toes, and smashed fingers to muscle the thing off; even then the characters can't quite lift it and must resort to awkwardly sliding the slab off.
The referee rolls some dice.
As the lid tumbles off with a thud, the company peers over the side of the stone box to see the contents by flickering torchlight. Inside lies desiccated remains of a body, dried and shrunken skin stretched tightly over the bones. The dwarfs eyes light up with the glitter of jeweled rings and a coronet crowning the skull.

Exploration turn 10 continued
Mensa prods at the corpses's empty eye sockets with his finger.
With a little finesse, Zipper manages to dislodge the coronet without pulling the corpse's head off. Its a brassy gold color, plain, but very beautiful and old.

Zipper stows the coronet in the sack in his back pack, assuring the others the intention is to split whatever they can sell it for back in town. More carefully, Zipper removes the rings from the corpse’s fingers, looking at the rings for any runes or other markings, and also trying to be mindful of any energy the rings may or may not be giving off.

So Zipper has touched all the jewelry? Interesting...
What are your orders for exploration turn 11? After turn 11, the party will need to spend a turn resting and relighting torches.

So Zipper has touched all the jewelry? Interesting... What are your orders for exploration turn 11? After turn 11, the party will need to spend a turn resting and relighting torches. OOC: How many sarcophagi still have their lids in place? Do we notice anything with Zipper? The lid was really heavy and suggest we spend this turn resting and listening for any sounds. If nothing happens, then on turn 12 while the three work on removing another lid, ZU-ZU!! and Gory Flory will relight torches and then watch and be ready.

Exploration Turn 12:
Five sarcophagi lay open, five still have lids in place. Zipper appears normal. Torches are relit, water and wineskins are sipped.
The referee rolls for wandering monsters (1d6=1!; surprise party = 4, monsters = 2).
From the door Mensa opened come a troop of shaggy-haired fighting-men in leather armor. Normally monsters could not be surprised by a party carrying torches, but since you were relighting torches this round inside a room, the men are caught completely off guard to find someone here. The are 40' distant (at the doorway to the room) and the party has a free surprise turn to act.

Zipper’s not eager to tangle with these penniless-looking wild men, so he starts back toward the open door Zu-Zu was keeping watch from. “Let’s scram and...” he starts to say, but then Mensa yells out his invitation to the intruders. Zipper shakes his head. Not wanting to abandon the party, Zipper looks around to see what the others intend to do.

OOC Notes that ZU-ZU!! had previously joined us to help Gory Flory relight torches.
OOC: How many does it look like there are in this troop? Crucial information that and it may drastically change the provisional decision below. Assuming that the numbers are roughly equal, we will go with the below. If we are outnumbered then we will do something different.
Gory Flory immediately climbs up on top of a sarcophagus to take the high ground if it comes to blows. Gory Flory calls out to the troop, "Who ye be and what are you about?" More quietly to the rest of the party, "You folks that know other languages might want to try them." "Zipper, why don't you join us here."
