Forum total members is a meaningless statistic. On the vast majority of forums, the vast majority of registered accounts are dead.
TPD's stats tracking member increases, and member increases per post threshold, are much more valuable information because they show the number of active participants.

The board owner finds the information useful, bringing him affirmation his work in providing this board to gamers is a useful service.
I myself find it rather interesting to see the board's growth over time. People find meaning in different things.

Forum total members is a meaningless statistic. On the vast majority of forums, the vast majority of registered accounts are dead. TPD's stats tracking member increases, and member increases per post threshold, are much more valuable information because they show the number of active participants. True, but it still is interesting to me, since forums are so different in size it makes an easy way for me to track active members versus total members. If that is reasonably in line with other forums, that tells me things are fairly normal. I am also sure that on all forums a lot of people check in to read without logging in. The page views tell me that. When the posting is up the page views are up and when the posting is down the page views are down. I can also see page views spike if an interesting topic is posted. For instance RPGNET has 12,009 active members and 123,208 total members for a participation rate of 9.75%. We average around 55 members logging in each month with about 25 of those being active with 215 total members through last month for a participation rate of 11.6% on average. November, December and January everything takes a nose dive for us. With my minimal participation this month our numbers for this November are really going to take a nose dive beyond what I would normally expect. |

Fortunately they don't send me on an emotional roller coaster, if it did I wouldn't have started it to begin with. |
