"What can you tell us about that thriving under market?" "You hang around in enough bars there and you can sort of figure it out."

Ah, well, it's probably been the best of an hour, and time to run that checklist. Buzz heads to engineering with the bastard clipboard, but if possible he patches in the audio from the away team so he can at least check their progress ... Which group's audio? You patch into both, but can only listen to one at a time

OOC: Well, erisred , would you like to try to talk to these guys? OOC: Sorry, I've been distracted by Real Life <tm>. IG: "Woryn, eh?" Bron sips his drink, "That's one of the systems we want to visit, but you say it's sketchy beyond there. What do you mean by sketchy? Unfriendly natives, Ethically Challenged Merchants, that sort of thing?"

Buzz hears Bron ask, "What do you mean by sketchy?" and that catches his attention but there's some interference. He taps a couple of buttons on the receiver and listens more closely.

OOC: makofan, it is not clear to me where this conversation can go. They do not seem to want to give a lot of info, so that makes me think they may be holding something back. So I am not sure how to interact. You know me -- tell me where the bad guys are and I'll throw my lvl 1 right on it no holds barred. I guess I am having trouble knowing the best role play move. How about this? IC: "Okay, well, thanks for the convo boys. The drinks are on us!" [Eye's his dick tracy detective watch] "Whoa, Bron, we're going to be late to that meeting we planned!" "Sorry boys, we gotta depart. Nice to meet you and do give us a com link before y'all push out. Let's keep in touch. Always good to have allies out in the ether." San slaps them on the back as he gets up to depart. OOC: I'm ready to get the action moving. So I am ready to push on.

Jamieson pulls at his tankard.
"Hecate. Well that's an interesting place. 10 million people living in domed cities. Guess there was a all-out war between two of the planets in the system, and all the survivors fled to that miserable ball of rock. They mine water from rocks. The atmosphere hardly exists. You need a filter and a breather just to step outside. But the spaceport is booming. Anybody bring in food or water can name their price. I usually fill up on clone bread while I'm here. Now, the police are strict, no weapons allowed, but life sucks so much on the planet that the ones lucky enough to get jobs in space party in the starport pretty hard. You can buy grav belts there. One night a bunch of us got drunk, strapped on grav belts and did a free fall from the spaceport to the planet. Better than sex, I tell you. Of course, we got fined for it, but...
"Now Angkar, you can dock at, but you can't land. The entire planet is claimed as the summer residence of the Emperor of this very planet. The Emperor taxes double on all ships docking there, but you can't bypass it on your way to Nardia unless you have a Jump-3 ship. Only heard rumors, but the living in his hidden palace is supposed to be the height of luxury. I've heard he does some trade in slave dolls from the Altairans, but that could just be bad rumors to uprise the populace here.
"Andisia has the rest of the survivors from the Hecate war. High tech sells great there, especially military hardware. Not always easy to get a hold of though."
"Been a pleasure meeting you, you'll have to tell me about your planet next time we meet. I've got to go deal with some customs, grease some palms maybe, so I'll see you around"

Let's keep our eyes open for business opportunities. Buyers and sellers and the like.
Maybe we can land a uniquely rewarding run.

Let walk slowly back and see what we can see. Let's keep our eyes open for business opportunities. Buyers and sellers and the like. Maybe we can land a uniquely rewarding run. Excellent idea! Based on what Jamison told us, if we're heading to Hecate next, buying food or water to sell there would earn top credits for us. I've started a "What We've Found Out" post in the "Rim Runner" GROUP Reference Thread. It contains some of what we've been told about several systems. I haven't included the UWP's for the worlds because I don't know if makofan intends them to be known to us. Makofan, can we accept the listed UWP's as already known, or not?Actually, if we're surveying a new region, perhaps WE should discover each world's UWP as we go. What does everyone think about that?

de Cloudforte pockets the data, and navigates to sector 3A of the spaceport to locate the Imperial office.
Upon arrival, he attempts to ascertain by visual inspection an appropriate and rapid means to procure an audience with a representative.

Are you going to try to sell any cargo here? I would say, yes. Absolutely. OOC: Having never played before, how do we role play that? The first step is to engage a brokerage. The more they charge as a commission, the better die roll you get when trying to sell your goods. It takes usually about a week for them to get the best price going. There is a chart the GM has, which lists resale value. I throw 2D, and the higher the number, the better the price. A roll of 7 gives an average price. For every 5% commission charge, you get a +1 DM, so a brokerage that charges 10% commission would give you +2 on the die roll. You could do it yourself, by creating an account on the planetary stock exchange (free at the starport!). Your DM there would be equal to your Admin skill. If using a local Broker, you could add your bribery skill as a DM. So, first step is to decide whether to list your goods yourself, or look for a broker OOC: I have decided that I am playing Traveller MY WAY, as it is the only way I can run this thing. If I contradict the rules as other people understand them, I will listen and may correct myself, but I may also just decide to keep my ruling

Upon arrival, he attempts to ascertain by visual inspection an appropriate and rapid means to procure an audience with a representative. The Imperial office is guarded by two more of the jack-and-cutlass cat-women. They watch you closely but make no attempt to stop you as you enter the crystalline gateway into the lush marbled interior. A waiting room is off to one side, and three rough-looming spacers are sitting there, looking impatient. Two more guards are near a rear door, and at a crystal-topped desk/kiosk is a tall cat-man shuffling papers HERE IS A PICTURE OF PARTY OF THE ENTRANCE

Gregoire briefly considers intrrogating the spacers, but to avoid the appearance of association he opts for the direct approach and advances to the desk, assuming a professional demeanor.
"Good [morning?]", he says, adressing the (feline?) man at the desk/reception podium.
"My name is de Cloudforte. I am an effectuator representing the interests of a principal of considerable wealth, prestige, and lineage. To the purposes of liesure travel and capital expenditure my principal seeks exacting cosmological, geographic, historical, cultural, and economic data on this sector, specifically this planet and its sister worlds."
"I wish to know if you, or one of your associates, is capable of providing such information, or failing that if you would be so kind as to refer me to a third party who could do so."

"I wish to know if you, or one of your associates, is capable of providing such information, or failing that if you would be so kind as to refer me to a third party who could do so." The man blinks a few times, parsing de Cloudforte's words. He seems to be weighing de Claoudforte's bearing, clothes, personality. He looks at Shelby also. "One moment sir". He presses a button, and ten seconds later a door opens from the back and another Atlantian appears. His clothes are well-cut, and he wears a long blade at his hip. He bows to Gregoire, a shallow bow, and then a deeper bow to Shelby. "M. de Cloudforte. Baroness Lockwood. A pleasure to welcome you to our planet. My name is miHirion, Plenipotentiary Elucidator for the Emerald Blossom. I may possibly be of some service. Please follow me." He leads you into an opulently furnished private room, where the chairs float just off the floor, grav adjusted to weight and height of the person sitting on them. Once seated, he pours an amber liquid from a cut-glass decanter. It is pungent with the smells of alcohol, and a vague smoke-and-cinnamon aroma. Strange-looking fruits sit in bowls. "How can this humble servant help you today?"

erisred , let's find a brokerage! OOC: what do we look for? OOC: Yeah, I agree! You've got Bribery, so we can add that as a DM with a Brokerage House. Let's find a Broker-2. With your Bribery-2 and the Broker-2, we'll get a +4 on the Ref's roll! That'll give us a 6 to 16 range with 11 as the most likely...that should get us a good price. When I run games, I typically have Brokers contacting ships on their way into port trying to drum up business on both ends. They can broker the sale of our cargo and can also broker the purchase of cargo to sell elsewhere. Not sure if Mako is doing it this way, but I'd say we should check our "inbox" at the ship to see if any brokers and left messages. If not, we should be able to find one, or several, in some sort of directory. If we're heading the Hecate next, and I think that should be our next stop. Then we should look to buy food/drink here for sale there, too. When we "talk to the broker" we can start him looking for something like that that we can buy once we sell our blades and aluminium here. IG: Bron using his Comm to check the ship's inbox for any messages left by local brokers....

You have many log entries, including one welcoming you to Atlantia, four offering enlarged mating gland operations, three for enhanced mammalian attachments, five for Atlantia brides dying to meet you, three for real estate time-shares, seventy-three links to pornography, and seven from brokerage firms. You call up the brokerage firms, and the two offering 10% services are Atlantia's Advantage Broker services, located downport, and Starport Brokerage, located in sector 1C
