I'm doing some work on my AiF project and I'm curious about whether people prefer one, two, or several volumes to the core rules. Feel free to explain your thoughts if you feel it's necessary.

I like the several volume if they are the digest sized books or the DM/Player split with larger books.

I voted for the third option.

For the most part, players don't read books, so a player/judge split isn't helpful.
Split into topics only if the judge is likely to need only one broad topic at a time. Having to consult two books at once is annoying.

OK, I was confused, based on your post I was looking for a vote for option 1, it didn't occur to me that you would have voted option 3. Myself, I always opt for the 3LBB approach.

My vote is to break books into self-contained topics, UNLESS the topics are intertwined enough to require cross-referencing (in which case they aren't really self-contained). Let form follow function; don't just mimic D&D.

I didn't vote because it is closed but I'd prefer multiple books or two books split between player & Referee stuff.

Never fear - still in progress. How far along is it? How can we encourage you? Now that the summer OT season is over I am going to hit it hard so updates will start showing up soon....

Nice topic! I am of the school that dictates that nothing good can come about the player's knowing the rules. Give me an idea of what you want to do, I'll give it some machanics if it needs to be randomized, and don't give me none of that Storygame mumbo jumbo because I don't buy it.

I like the idea of digest sized books and only as many volumes as needed due to page limits for digest size.
