I am gearing up to run a play-by-mail (using modern technology like e-mail, Skype, and Google+ hangouts) campaign set in Tekumel. The basic rules are Tony Bath's, which Prof. Barker used for his 'meta-campaign' starting in the middle 1970s. Reports and news will go up on my blog, as a classic campaign newsletter sort of thing.

That is very cool. I look forward to reading about, so feel free to post links, comments and anything you want to share. If at some point you are interested in a play by post hosted here, we have several people talking about doing that also, we just haven't gotten that far yet.

I second what Admin Pete says, above. @chirinebakal, please consider running a PbP through the forums here!

This is really quite exciting @chirinebakal, I'm looking forward to following this game (and I'll play in it if there's room!). Do you expect it to mainly be play-by-mail, or are you hoping to balance it with real-time sessions through something like Skype? How many players do you hope/expect to play in the campaign?

Not seen Tekumel (where does the accent go again?) run before, but heard a great deal about it by repute. Consider this subscribed to.

@chirinebakal how about an update! How is your campaign going? It never even got started. I had been invited by Luke Gygax to come back to Lake Geneva for Gary Con in 2016 and run a room full of Tekumel games - RPGs, miniatures, all sorts of stuff - and he asked me to include the Tekumel Foundation in my planning. I did; and contacted them. Dr. Victor Raymond, the head of the Foundation, then informed Luke and Gary Con that only the Tekumel Foundation has the legal right to run 'Official', 'Authorized', and 'Approved' Tekumel programming at conventions, and that the Foundation "would take action" if I was allowed to run any events at Gary Con. After six months of negotiations and increasingly bizarre demands from Dr. Raymond - and with the lawyers getting involved - I simply pulled the plug on the whole event. This took up all of the energy and time I'd planned to use for the campaign, and I frankly haven't felt like gaming much since then. Sorry.

@chirinebakal that is really a sad chain of events and somehow I expected better from the Tekumel Foundation.
I hope you get your gaming groove back before too long. Where you primarily a EPT player or did you also play a lot of D&D bitd?

This is sad. I find it very confusing, as well. So, if I were to run a monopoly game at a CON, some lawyers would want to "take action"?

Why are gaming companies so determined to shoot themselves in their own feet?

Sorry. i heard about this through Paul Stormberg. A strange turn (or, no turn) of events... Keep gaming and ignore politics. One does not have to be from the "Foundation" to honor Professor Barker's legacy.
