Love these types of items. I frequently detail little items when I DM to either throw the party off for no reason or simply to add some "color" to the game. Sometimes they are magic Quote:Anthropomorphic wine jug (with a beer gut) Etruscan, c. 710–670 BC t.co/itmiKLoO3z

The University of Florence (Italian: Università degli Studi di Firenze, UniFI) is an Italian public research university located in Florence, Italy. Note that this University is a site of training in AD&D terms: Yes, this is a place where you can "level up". It also is the site of a Collegium ov Magick (cf. Dragon #124 for further details).

Consider both the Medici family and Machiavelli to be NPCs, alive and well.
Interestingly, my Mom had a friend in Vancouver, by the name of Florence.
Anyway, thanks for the reminder. By now, I think it's evident that the Tuscany thread has become the placeholder for the Etruscan culture. Pursuant to this, Orcus was a god of the Etruscans, and, on this basis, I would consider placing RAPPAN ATHUK in Tuscany. As always, it's important to emphasize that I am not aiming for historical accuracy: I am aiming for mythological inspiration.
Anyway, with regards to the Medici family: how would you express them in game terms? Anyway, with regards to Machiavelli: how would you express him in game terms?
chris107: thanks for the great images, as always!
Inspiration, St. Prespos of Florence
Ps. Have you read "LEST DARKNESS FALL", by L. Sprague de Camp? I found it to be an excellent read, and, at present, it forms a basis for my conception of the Italic realms.

Thanks, I am most familiar with the merchant class from Dragon #136. Time permitting, I shall take a look at the version in White Dwarf. One thing I do play with is social class: in theory, someone who is from Tuscany who gets a high Social Class roll can choose to be of the Medici family. The hitch is that for Tuscany, I'd use the social class info from HR5 Glory of Rome, in theory, instead of the d100 table in Unearthed Arcana. So, basically, I need to a bit more research with regards to this. That said, in general, I do believe that social class should have an effect on a character's starting wealth. This only seems logical. With regards to Machiavelli, to misquote Jimmy Page, he is the 'author of evil'. I wouldn't discount the possibility of a few levels in the assassin class, but I would also consider philosopher-mage, as well. Needless to say, his writings are an echo of the state of intrigue among the Italic nobles, to say the least. Between the two, if I had the time, I would detail the Medici family. They were well-known to be patrons of the arts. Why not the patrons of adventurers, as well? Intrigue, St. Prespos of Florence
