One-Step Equipment Generation

I want to relate to you a great document for equipment generation at an open table or otherwise starter-friendly 0D&D.  They provide equipment lists by character class with just one 3d6 roll.  Here is the document in a compact form.  Here is the document suitable for hand outs.  It originated with Brendan of Necropraxis, who is a great source of old school philosophy and gameable content.

So let me get this straight. You roll 3D6, which determines the amount of gps you get, but by looking at the chart responding to your class your gps are spent on equipment already?

There are a lot of OSR people who are accomplished in some other field first, and bring their professional or avocational perspective to the hobby. Most of us I think are computer guys or engineer guys, but there are other kind of guys too.
