robkuntz; do you recall how players used the Contact Higher Plane spell back in the day? The recommendation that its use should be limited to once per week implies the designers (including yourself?) didn't want players to over-use this spell. But it's not exactly clear to me how the player would benefit from its use. Looks to me like the player risks insanity to get a yes/no answer without knowing whether the answer is actually true/false. Is that right?

Is there any way, WoE, that you can post the spell description here? It's been so long and my books are packed away upstairs and I do not have access to them without some digging. If you do that, or can do that, I will be very happy to comment.

Hi WoE. Thanks for posting it. Yes, you are correct in the limited investment to return, even at proportionately higher levels which decrease risk of insanity. Though I have used the spell in play during the Original Campaign, I have not used it since, as I have my own devices that allow securing of information in WoK and which are more granular/involved than this. There are obvious ways of making the spell more useful--halving insanity chances, decreasing the questions while eliminating insanity, allowing its use more than once per game week, etc. This particular spell is in fact ripe for alteration/amendment.
