I just read in the paper that New Horizons had sent pics back to NASA showing what could be cryovolcanoes (ice volcanoes) on the surface of Pluto. I have to admit, I actually didn't know this phenomena even existed, but thought it was really interesting. I certainly think it could be a very cool (yes, pun intended...) feature in a polar area of a fantasy or science fiction setting. Some links: Ice volcanoes on PlutoCryovolcanoes on Wikipedia

There seem to be similar conditions on Titan, as well. Cryo-everything. I have geysers of this type in an unpublished work, "The Horrid Swamp," but they are very strange in that the ejection is icidic (acid-ice), due to the magical nature of the formation of the geysers.

Interesting. Always great to learn something new, and that concept of ice geysers sounds like a pretty awesome idea too. Perhaps it'd be in order to give a heads up to Von as he's using Titan as inspirational source for his setting (unless he's alreday aware of this phenomena!)

I have been studying Titan and the info NASA is collecting on it since the start. A very ferocious planet! Yes. "The Horrid Swamp" is filled with all sorts of integrated ideas, all new stuff. Now if I only had the time to finish the remaining, estimated, 15,000 words ( I am at 11,000 on this MS).

This doesn't fit in at all with my ideas, but I have to say, ice volcanoes could make a pretty fun setting.

This doesn't fit in at all with my ideas, but I have to say, ice volcanoes could make a pretty fun setting. The volcano blasts icy particles into the air and buries the nearby town alive! Pompeii, but everyone's in suspended animation! The coldest town in town! It gets subsumed into a nearby growing glacier! Later, the ice all melts and everybody walks out no worse for wear! A culture clash a thousand years in the making! No one will be admitted during the gripping "thaw" scene! Reserve your tickets today!

This reminds me of the short lived TV program with Monte Markham, called The Second Hundred Years.
